How often do you use the tachometer in your vehicle?

Not just a glance, but actively watch it for engine data.

It seems to me that tachs are more prolific than years and years ago, but I wonder how many people actually use them, vs the manufacturers deciding to include them to simply provide an impression of sportiness.

Every drive. Every shift.

I don't own a vehicle with an automatic transmission. I enjoy driving.

I use it more than I use my turn signals at least.

I look at my tach about 10 times more often than my speedometer.

I don’t even need to as I could accurately guess which RPM I’m hitting by the sound of the engine. But it helps with knowing how efficiently you’re driving and with driving a stick.

A tachometer is pointless to 99% of the driving population.

You actually look rather than feel it? I've driven a stick for nearly 25 years and I can honestly say that other than the first few months after leaning how to drive one, I've never once looked at it in favor of just feeling the engine and listening to the sound of it.

Pretty much never. Probably because it doesn't have one.

Neither does my motorcycle, and that works out just fine.

I like to pay attention to it when idling, but certainly don't watch it every time I drive.

I did watch it more when I drove a stick, but eventually got to where I shifted based on feel more than watching the tach.

If i had autopilot or a driver i would never drive again.

If you are driving a 1972 911 then sure, get the manual and "enjoy driving".

But you people who get the manual version of every day drive cars and then act like you are some hobbyist at the track are fricking rubes.

Use my ears when stick/paddle shifting.

Best use of a tach I ever heard about was when Richard used it to beat David Pearson (who had a faster car) in the 1984 Firecracker 400 at Daytona. Richard beat him by the about a foot, but he won.

Only when engine breaking while driving down a mountain.

So almost never.

I don't drive stick anymore, but when I did, I never looked at the tach that often either. Just kinda had it memorized by the sound

When trying to sound cool actually shows that you're bad at driving stick.
