Rarely ever notice it in our automatic cars, pretty much the same in my manual and PDK cars. I do occasionally notice the lights coming on leading up to redline on the track in higher gears, but usually just in the lower part of my visual field. Tachs can be useful when driving a new car just to lock your brain into the exact sound of the different revs. Once you get the car's soundtrack down there are far more important things to be looking at IF you are driving in a way that revs are that important.
