I drive a manual. Reference the tach quite a bit.

this is absurd. anyone who has owned a stick longer than a month knows what RPM they're at by the sound of the engine alone.

you may look at it in the beginning or if your car is idling funny but to say you stare at it all the time because 'you're a real driver' is the dumbest OT brag i've ever heard

You can easily shift based on sound and feel. I have never once needed the tach to shift. Learned to drive on a stick.

My dad bought an old work truck when I was about 15 and that is what he made me drive throughout high school. It was a solid white brick, a circa 1995 Silverado. Blue vinyl seats and a floor stick. That was fun.

When trying to sound cool actually shows that you're bad at driving stick.

My other favorite is "I always drive with one hand because I drive a stick."

until i inherited my uncle's f150 last year every vehicle i've driven has been a stick. after having had one you tend to seek out manual transmissions because as you pointed out..they're so much fun and generally easy to find since nobody else seems to want them

All the time, two vehicles with automatics and one with a manual. I have extra electronic and mechanical gauges for boost, transmission temperature, fuel pressure, oil pressure, voltage, etc. too.

I drive a truck with an automatic, so almost never.

My first 3 cars were all manuals. Even then, I barely did more than glance at the tach because I knew when to shift based on engine sound/feel. Only really paid attention to it when I was downshifting to accelerate and/or on the gas pedal and shifting at high RPM

I drive a small 4 cylinder 5 speed, I use the tach anytime I am winding out 4th gear to pass or accelerate to transition into 5th with enough speed that it doesn't have a slump. I watch the tach to let me know if Im pushing to much and need to shift to 5th. Otherwise its sound and feel.

What’s worse than the tach is the stupid upshift light that was on my Jeep. I live in a hilly area and I think it was tied to the speed and the rpms. Always came on too early. Yeah I could go to third but then I’m going to be bogging down instead of keeping it in second for another 10mph then shift.

What a pompous douchebag.

Most of my cars and all of my bikes have had manual transmissions. You shift by sound and feel.

I've even had a couple bikes without tachs, Harleys, and you don't miss it at all.

My eyes are either on the road or on the infotainment system trying to find a good song.

The only time I look at the tach is if the idle sounds rough or high.

So you are looking at it for every shift? Go suck a fat one.

I've driven a stick for 30 years and yes especially when the engine is cold and oil temp is low and I'm intentionally trying to stay under 2500 rpms.
