Don't do it. If you have to, buy your neighbor a pool and swim there.

I’m only going by what most every pool owner I know say, stay away. Unless you can afford to have a service come out and maintain it.

i maintain my own. chlorine pool.
99% of the time all i use is baking soda and $1.77/gallon bleach from walmart.
--- but ---
you have to rub your pool's clit every single day or it will turn on you like an angry bitch.
skip a day at your own peril.

My family and I love our pool. It's at my cousin's house, and he maintains it for us.

ha thats funny because our pool is at my mother in laws (no pics) and she also pays to maintain it.

I would just buy a house with a pool - let the current homeowner deal with the money etc

You should go to the outdoor board for questions like this.

Nonsense. Trouble free pool is insane. I have a 27000 gallon pool with puck chlorinator and Polaris robot. Only maintenance I do is bring water to pool store for testing every 2 weeks, and pour in baking soda. Clean robot filter every couple of days and refill pucks. Can't understand why people think its so tedious. Water is always crystal clear.

This was me for 13 years. ('00-'13)
Same-sized pool, after Year One 1 I had it on cruise control.
If I was away for more than a week I would need someone to clean the skimmers and Polaris.
I will admit pool ownership is a constantly running program in your head if you are the primary pool boy (or gurl).

In-ground vinyl liner pool is round $25k for a decent one. $40k-$60k for gunite, fiberglass is in between. Fiberglass has the least long term maintenance cost, but installation in your yard may not be possible. High ground water could float it, or you may need a crane if access is an issue. Liner pool is the cheapest. Gunite is the most customizable. Both of those have long term replacement costs such as replacing the liner or getting the pool re-plastered.

I'm with you there, throw in a sand filter and it's pretty easy. I test it myself every week, backwash the filter, refill the chlorine tablets, adjust the pH, empty the skimmers, something I do for about 20 minutes once a week. No big deal, even my wife can do it.
