How much of what you believe was taught and you have just gone along with it?

How often do you engage in a critical view of your beliefs?

How often do you ask why you believe certain things?

Would you have arrived at these same beliefs independent of instruction?

It’s important to do a self-audit every once in a while. Take a look inward. Ask yourself, Why do I believe this? Is it based on principle? Am I being a hypocrite? What if I am wrong?

And take a step back, mentally. Look at the big picture. What’s really important? Don’t get lost in the weeds.

I’m a very introspective person. That’s why I’m sure of my beliefs and know that, even if I’m wrong sometimes, I am moving in the right direction with my opinions.

I feel like critical thinking in this area is frowned Upon. Onus is on parents to instill their beliefs into their children before they are of age to question.

If you're a Mormon you're kids are too. If you're an Adventist or a Witness as are your kids. You do what you can to keep them from regular Christians who see you s different as you see them.

Back when I was 14, I went to a youth group retreat in Atlanta called Blood and Fire. There was a preacher guy that called up every boy in the building. He went down the line putting his hand on each forehead and speaking something “in Jesus name.” Every single kid fell down and had some kind of Holy Spirit induced out of body experience.

He got to me and I was ready. I was about to fall out and see God.

But nothing happened. He pushed hard on my head like he was trying to push me down. Nothing happened.

He then called on “intercessors” to take me to the side and talk and pray with me.

Been questioning everything since then.

You should always study for yourself when you get older.

Many people believe anything they are told because they are lesser beings

Its why the DNC took over public teachers unions

Independent thought is cursed. Everyone must think how the media tells them.

Reaching the end of this journey, I have gone along with nothing. Glad to say I am still learning.

I question plenty of things, usually out of the desire to know how and why things work. Often times it leads to improvements and doing things more efficiently. In a given situation most people will do a basic job exactly the way they are told to do it. If I can't make sense of what I am doing and why, I question it.

Question but don’t question just for the sake of questioning.

All I know is that I'm right and everyone else within more than a deviation of my opinions is either evil or a retard, maybe both.

I mean, you should question everything in some way, but not following along with a mass-formation scam isn’t exactly some epiphanic revolt.

It is when you’re a child who has been indoctrinated into an extremist religion.

When it comes to religion, nearly everyone believes what they’re taught to believe. That is one of many reasons I’m not religious.

independent of instruction?

You were on a good streak until this. For example, you were probably instructed how to do your job. Instruction does not equal indoctrination.

But to your question, everyone on this board speaks english and everyone here would speak something else if they grew up in a country that spoke something else. Likewise, everyone here is a christian or christian leaning, and everyone here would be hindu or muslim if they grew up in Bangalore.

Only a fool believes they are they are, and think what they think, purely out of their own head and of their own will. We all stand on the shoulders of giants.
