Ancestors came from England and Ireland to Maryland. Moved down south cause they bought land and a plantation. I'm probably more black and Native American than coonass

Zero. I can't stand that word.

But I love my state and my people. I'm 100% Louisianian.

I think the word is an insult to the honest, hard working people of Louisiana... and I think it was applied by some who came here to work in our oilfields and who looked down on the "dumb" people here. Honestly, we need to stop saying it among ourselves as it gives a poor impression to others who don't really know us.

My family has been in Louisiana since the early 1700's and I'm not a coon's or anybody else's arse. The people who want to call me that are the real asses...

Grew up in Opelousas.. My dad's side is very cajun/coonass and my grandmothers first language was Cajun French. I myself am not very coonass. I'd rate myself about a 2 or 3 on coonass scale. I can cook some of the food but I don't have much of an accent

Only reason it's not a 9.5 is because I shook my accent pretty good when I moved to a large city.

Maybe a 4, 5 at most, Mother's side of family as qualifier.

Practically speaking, about a 0.75. Spent time in and around but not lived as such

I'm from Arnaudville. I've had people offshore think I'm from the bayou and I've been called a coon associate offshore. I'm about a 10.
