But what if it looks like this instead of that ugly mug dog in OP's post?

Good to see not everyone on this country has furbaby syndrome.

Also, the OP shows yet again that middle America isn't doing as bad financially as they moan about.

when my boxer was 8 he had cancer in his toe. they wanted 200 to cut off his toe and about 1500 for a bunch of other shite. I told them I couldn't afford more than 1000 . that boy lived to 13. I didn't spend any other money on health stuff except maybe heart worm meds when he was young

If you aren’t willing to spend money and time to care for a dog you shouldn’t get one. That’s why I never got one.

What is the medication needed monthly for Cushings? My dog has the opposite of Cushings which is Addisons and she needs a $200 injection every month. I didn’t know Cushings required medication in the same way. My dog was diagnosed very young so we didn’t hesitate to treat it and pay it every month. Her quality of life has been excellent and as long as she gets her shot every month then you would never know she has the disease. Hopefully it’s the same for your pup but I don’t know how old they are.

I’d probably go up to a grand. Anything more than that I’d just put her down.

Good looking dog. That’s the face of a dog who just heard you say treat, outside, truck, ride, or anything else that rhymes with that.

My dog ate 75 greenies on Tuesday morning while I was at work and wife was still at the house. 2 bags, 1 emptied and the other bag is nowhere to be found. I came home for lunch and poor bastard looked miserable. Watched him and didn’t feed him anything else and he seems fine now and back to himself.

I knew a woman who would give her cat dialysis twice a day due to kidney failure. She'd put the cat on the kitchen counter, then start an IV with a drip bag.

I did that with two of my cats twice a week for months. I had a set up in the laundry room. My cats were not as cooperative as the one in the picture, but it kept them happy and healthy until it was their time to go.

I mean, I think the vet expense crap gets ridiculous and one can say "no thanks" without being pet Hitler. And obviously some people go overboard with bringing them every damn place they go.

But pets (though a significant pain in the arse at times) bring a lot of joy and laughs. Kill your dog or whatever and see how happy your kids are. Pets soften our jaded, cold hearts.

I seriously hope you’re rich.

Dogs are wonderful additions to a family, but they’re additions. I would never hinder my family’s quality of life for my dog. That number changes based on income and savings, so I don’t want to give some arbitrary limit.

I’m not rich but I’m not struggling and I love my pup. If he wasn’t getting around well or struggling I would have put him down but he’s an active happy pup and felt like he had a few good years left. Not to mention both big bills came a year or so apart and maybe I would have had different feelings if it was 20k in one shot.

What is the dog's pain? I hate propping up a dog to keep humans happy. THey do not understand invasive surgery and recovery.

Depends on the age and circumstances.

I had a dachshund that was my buddy for 14+ years.

When she was just a couple years old, I paid thousands for an oncologist and surgery.

When she was 14, she needed surgery for a hernia that was going to be $2-3k, with no long term guarantees. We were 8 months pregnant and I couldn’t justify it.

I had her put to sleep and cried like a baby and regret it often, but I know it was the right choice for us at that time.

$0
But I have a tortoise.

One time, I spent $300 to fly him (Speedy) overnight from Prairieville LA to Bend OR, 2300 miles.

Best $300 I’ve ever spent. UPS delivers:

African Sulcata Tortoise.

Five years old. Hand raised by me since he could fit in the palm of my hand.

He’s not in pain but cushing’s has a bunch of nasty side effect or symptoms.

He’s gone 3/4’s blind, it causes cataracts

White blood cell count high, Vet says it makes their immune system weak and susceptible to UTI’s

Muscle weakness and lethargy

We started treatment this morning and will see if he responds
