My credit card bill is around 4K per month for gas, entertainment, eating out and clothes.

I guess that’s for most expenses because I put everything I buy on my credit card except for groceries, lawn guy and maid.

After all bills, insurances, groceries, etc., our discretionary spending is around $2,300/month. Over the past couple years I’ve really focused on nailing down a budget. For a while I was spending like crazy and let the credit cards creep up to around the $40K range again. Took a while to get an accurate accounting of our discretionary spending, but for a long time I’d write down every dollar we spent. Now we stay pretty consistent in our spending and stay on budget (and knocked out the credit cards again). And we don’t eat out all that often - most of the spending is just miscellaneous crap that seems to pop out of nowhere.

Same here, luckily half of my expenses are work related and are ran through my company.

I bring my own lunch, brunch maybe a couple times a month, happy hours are on my patio, we may go out to eat a couple times a week. I’m an introvert and my job is to be social all day. The last thing I want to do is be more social on weeknights.

Ditto. My S/O and I live in one of the greatest restaurant cities in the world, so why the hell not take advantage of it while we can?

Now that we have our accounts combined we have this rule that if you want to spend over $100 on discretionary shite it needs to be discussed. This is the first time either of us have combined accounts and it’s not going well on that front- mostly bc I haven’t had a reason to spend 100 on anything and she has something everyday. Welcome to married life I guess. The other day I saw she purchased a fricking face sponge at this place called allure(?). fricking 44 dollars for a sponge. Fml

Same here. Some people spend money on gadgets, cars, or clothes or whatever it is that they enjoy. We like to spend our money on experiences, trying new things, taking trips, etc...

Not enough I need to buy a new gun and go to the range more just to spend what I have “budgeted out”, which proabably isn’t even enough then.

Probably around 1500ish for my wife and I, but throw in helping kids out on their own, who sometimes need help, it fluctuates

As long as I don’t have to show it as income I’m good. Being an SCorp we can spend and show making less and pay less taxes. It’s a pain in the arse but frick better than just giving it to US

No its not. Between being in the office and other work related commitments I "work" 70 hours a week a lot of weeks.

To answer your original question, I probably spend $300 a month on truly discretionary spending. That's not gad or groceries or anything like that. Just money I "wasted" on golf or booze or whatever.

There was a thread last year on the money board about "how much do you spend eating out?" someone mentioned they spend, I think, 500. Small family.
My reply was " "

Then I started tracking it for a few months......
