We engaged in a meaningful, two-way dialogue about the topic and settled on mutually satisfactory names for our children.

By which I mean Ms. FCP proposed names, I grunted in acquiescence, and the names were thereby chosen.

Make sure they dope her up real good like when she delivers. Insist they use enough where she won't have much pain after it is over. While she is out of it, fill out the birth certificate with the name you want. I would rather suffer a life of nagging and potential divorce than saddle my kid with a "unique" name.

My kids are named Braxlyn and Haileiygh. They're the most unique names at travel ball practice and tumbling class, respectively.

I am at the point now where I want to say screw it, name him Ryder,Brantly, or some other white trash name that is unique.
Don't do that to your kid.

My wife wanted to name the first child a certain name (which I liked), so I told her, "Okay. But I get to name the next one." Which I did.

Have they chosen a gender?

The stick figure family on the back of my wife's Yukon says yes.

I came up with all the names, went down the list until my wife agreed. She agreed with my third name for my oldest and first for my youngest. It shouldn’t be complicated....

I have a son, so pretty much all of it. There ain't no way in hell I would name my first born son anything but exactly what I wanted to. If I have a girl, I'll probably let her pick the middle name LOL.

Not him, but also doing the same. I really like my name. It's extremely traditional. My grandfather was named after HIS grandfather, who was also either the 3rd or 4th (just a different surname). I like holding on to family history like that.

The majority of your child’s life will be spent as an adult. We started with traditional names that would not sound stupid in a boardroom or look dumb on a diploma . . . then we eliminated any of those names that had an easy and unfriendly common nickname . . . and then we chose the name. We did add a more “current” middle name in case she wanted to go by that as a kid, but she prefers her more traditional name.

The cuteness of some names wears off in a hurry. Don’t saddle your kid with a name that they will regret later. Save the creativity for naming the dog or cat . .. they don’t give a damn.

I got to pick all of our kids names.

Of course she had the final yes/no so I offered up about 50 each time before we picked one.

But it was my idea.

IMO, which doesn't mean anything to you and shouldn't, remember when you give your kid a stupid " unique" name, that they have to grow up and be adults and work somewhere with that "unique" name.

Sacrificing your child's sanity for a temporary high of uniqueness is not a good deal for your kid. How would you like having to spell your name to everybody you ever meet for the rest of your life just so your parents could feel "creative" for a few months?

It was her idea, but I really like it and my wife isn't trashy so it wasn't raising a travel ball-sized red flag.

We ended up with a family name from my side as his middle name.
