Well, there’s a 114 page and counting thread with people relentlessly arguing about politics in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s death.
I think social media is a huge problem. Don’t know how it gets fixed

Just posted about this in the Kirk thread.
I deleted most social media before law school and kept scaling back surviving sites during it. I’m now only on here and Discord, if that even counts (just for group voice calls with longtime friends). I legitimately think it was the best decision I’ve made for my mental development in my entire adult life… and I’m mid-30s, not some dorky 23 year old that just barely became an adult
Social media is a fricking scourge.

Social media has had little effects. This all started when the left started promoting violence.

Absolutely.
We've become mentally vulgar and barbaric. Most is due to social media contagions.

Russia and China bot farms. With the raise of A.I., they created the division faster than previously possible. I've seen comments that seem legit but they have 0 followers. Now multiply that by 1000s on every social media platform.

It has made us reactionary, instead of contimplative.

Exponentially, and the “smart” phone will be the vehicle that eventually ends the world.
BTW, posted using smart phone.

Without a doubt it’s made our problems worse.
In early 2004, I moved to DC right after college for a bit and worked as a low level congressional staffer. This was before iPhones and Facebook (as we know it today) and even MySpace.
I went to a bar one night on Capitol Hill with some friends and there was a table near us with two guys who were loudly arguing with one another. They kept getting louder and louder until a bar employee came over and told them to quiet down or GTFO. They quieted down and stayed and finished their beers and there were no more problems.
One of the guys in our group said something like, “why are you hanging out just to argue? Did one of them ask the other ‘hey, wanna go get a beer after work YA’ frickIN’ a-hole’?” Everyone laughed.
In todays world, those two guys would be able to anonymously argue with one another on social media with it continuously escalating and no bar manager to come over and tell them to quiet down or GTFO. Even though they were annoying to everyone else in the bar, their face to face arguing seems safer than the anonymous vitriol spewed all over social media all day long.
My crazy uncle used to have to be around people to initiate political arguments, now he can just stare at his phone all day and write in all caps while he yells at strangers on the internet about how they deserve to die because they don’t agree with his opinion. He’d never say that shite to someone in person.

The problems where there, social media just poured gas on the fire and lit the match

Yes, that's what I am saying. It has escalated, intensified, and exacerbated the problems. Like many here say, arguing online without repurcussions (mostly) have yielded more extreme rhetoric that would not be found in polite society. Even educated people who are good, normal folks get into the rabbit hole when AI puts articles and comments first that are inflammatory wanting engagement and reactions with the most outlandish getting first response. While this is genuniely the far-left or far-right, this ridiculous outcast gets an audience while before would have never been heard from. So, in the 1990s you just watch the news, now you watch the news and complain how every part of it is wrong and generate reactions.

A lot. This morning my social media is filled with short videos of super scary right wing mofos I’ve never seen before sayin the civil war is on and a lot of people are about to die.
People are crazy. Social media gives millions of crazy people an unfiltered platform to share their insanity. It has been used to radicalize people to join ISIS, tp radicalize right wing militia and to radicalize random people to spout left wing nonsense.
The power of social media to manipulate people is why Trump uses social media more than anything else, and also why the language of his posts is so insane. He is right in the middle of it and using it for its worst purposes. So far, no one on the left has figured it out to the same level as Trump and the right wing.
But OP is absolutely correct that social media has provided a tool for the insane to spread their insanity.

We know how these sites work.
So, either you are lying or you search for those videos already.

Social media is the main problem, along with a media, academia and cultural complex that calls anyone to the right of Stalin a Nazi.

Social media is filling the void left by people abandoning healthier guiding principles rooted in family, community, faith, or even a hobby or sports team.
Social media makes it convenient for lost and vulnerable people to be influenced by radical forces anywhere on earth.

remember how in High school they had the kids separated...you had LD kids with other LD kids, the not smart but not dumb kids together in regular classes and then you had the smart kids in classes together
yea....now the LD kids have a place to run to and scream and rile up even more LD kids and think they are all the smart ones.
Life was better when the LD kids were separated and kept away from the rest of society.
