Zero. If I’m concerned about a purchase I try to get word of mouth comments. Everything online is fake or biased. People rarely post good stuff about a purchase. People ALWAYS post bad things about a purchase.

Amazon listing volume of sales/reviews is a useful number. Actual reviews at Amazon need to be generalized for trends.

reviews elsewhere are easily manipulated

I look for reviews that matter to me. If I’m researching a product that I only need for a one time use, I don’t care if 100% negative reviews criticize the durability.

I start with the one star. Some are just stupid, but some make me go to the two stars and see just how bad the product was as a disappointment.
Five stars seldom get read by me, four stars usually get decisions made.

I do make an effort when I'm asked about something I've bought and if I don't know, I'll tell them why I don't know. (Usually about gaming abilities on computers,)

I look at volume and ratio. I will pick a 4.5 rating based on 5000 reviews, over a 5.0 based on 12 reviews. I rarely read the reviews themselves, unless I am looking for something in particular regarding the product.

You have to read the reviews. That is the entire point.

I love this new gun the fit and finish is great. Mounted my extremely heavy LPVO to it, really sets it off. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but I think it will be awesome.

Amazon reviews are trash! Most are bought or fake....like a pair of men's t-shirt's I never heard of has more and better reviews then Hanes or FOL.

Airbnb same bs reviews, I go to certain location on a regular bases. The Airbnb host leave glowing reviews of each other.

The fake ones are easy to pick out generally.
The ones on Amazon with pics and videos are great.

Sometimes I will check out reviews on hotels before making a reservation. Usually, they can be pretty accurate.

This 100%. I recently stayed in an all 5 star review AirBnN that was a quarter mile down the road from a hospital. Ambulance with sirens passed by morning, noon and night. And low level street noise was heard too.

Almost every review before raved about how quiet it was .

I wrote balanced review and gave it 4 stars, specifically mentioning the ambulance.

This thread prompted me to check and sure enough since I wrote that review a few days ago there are already 3 or 4 reviews saying how quiet it is

Restaurant reviews are the worst. Everyone has different tastes and sometimes you catch a place when it's very busy.

I always look at the negative ones. If the worst negative isn’t that bad, that’s a data point. I also look for details in the positive ones that a bot or a click-farmer or an owner wouldn’t think to add.

Product and service reviews are the most helpful.

"This is cheap Chinese crap, but I could buy 100 of them instead of one OEM part that is just as likely to break."

"Bob was always late to the job site. The Estimate was $1000 less than the actual cost. My kindergardener could have built the fence better."

Rental reviews *can* be helpful.
"This unit is next to the elevator and ice machine. You can hear it run all night."
"There is a strip club next door."

Restaurant reviews can be helpful.
"They use generic ketchup, the fries are frozen, and the entree's are microwaved. I expect more from my bowling alley."

Book and Movie reviews are very subjective and unreliable, unless there's like 10,000 reviews and it's easier to see a consensus. Reading 1 star reviews of classics is pretty entertaining.

It is all about the details in the review.
Many people take time to outline valid concerns or benefits or give helpful guidance with specifics and documentation. Some include images or videos which may be very important.
I generally read reviews from 1 through 4.
Might scan 5s but those are frequently people who are just excited that a shiny new thing arrived and have no meaningful input. Rarely helpful unless some specifics are included.
I take time to give reviews with what I see as helpful to the end users.

Years ago as an appliance sales manager, I always told people that if a $2500 fridge works, most people won't get on in 3 months and give it a 5 star review. But if you spend that much and it breaks, you tend to be more vocal about it. If one review says ice maker is bad, and another says it's loud... Those are one offs. If you see 25 reviews saying the ice maker is bad, then that might be a pattern worth considering.

Fives and Ones either work for the company or are the competitors.

One star reviews typically are left by people that are too stupid to understand or use said product. Every now and then there is a legitimate thoughtful bad review, but most of the time they absolutely scream idiot.
