How much did you 'settle' for marriage?

Most didn't marry their 'soulmate' or even someone they 'couldn't live without'...so what made you jump the broom?
My current SO and I have been together 3 years. Both have had previous marriage and I've always expressed that I'm committed but don't see a reason to get 'married'. Today I was given an ultimatum. Commitment by marriage or she's walking. I don't want to lose her but still stand by my belief.
We're both around 40 so kids aren't a reason. Not sure what good could come from signing a contract. Why can't people just be together and happy?

The concept of a one and only "Soulmate" is stupid. Life isn't a Disney movie. The kind of love that lasts takes work no matter what. Even I know that. With that being said, sounds like your predicament is something y'all should've figured out awhile ago. You both should've known where the other stands on marriage

Why the frick would you "settle" just to get married. That's basically putting a neon sign in your front window that your marriage is going to last for less than 5 years.
