LOL. I don't really care if you believe me. There is a reason people are driving down to Cheniere, Cameron, Venture, etc.

It's not for $140K and a reach around.

Maybe intro-pay

But LULZ after that

I make $54/hr as a CCR operator at a major company along the river. Just got my last check for the year and my annual gross was $190k. I have 11 years experience and am at top pay, which increases ~2% each year as an inflation adjustment. A very close relative is also an engineer here with many years of experience as well. I made about 50% more than him.

Now obviously if you take some senior engineer 30 years into his career (The field itself doesn't really have a ceiling in some cases), he could definitely be making more. But on average and overwhelmingly so, an operator is financially taking care of his family significantly more.

I can't say this for a fact, but I'm pretty sure most of our production crew made more than the actual plant manager, whom is also an engineer LSU grad himself.

Also, ask me anything

Unless it’s a top engineer/ management level engineers don’t make that much.

Not really. At $55 per hour $190k can be reached with less than 500 hours overtime with built in holidays and overtime the last 4 hours of each shift.

That's nothing. When I was at one plant we had one ole baw who had nearly 3000 hours overtime. Couple others with 2500. Pretty much worked 6-7 days a week and 16 hours a day.

We can debate whether thats legit or sleep time but I know for a fact he made over 300K a year. Think he was a machinist or something.

Not heresay either. Seen the OT reports.

I’ve lived that life. It’s for real. 18 hour days. 5am-11pm and Vice versa. As many as we wanted. Busted 100 hours a week many times in my young days.

Average starting pay is around $80k a year and average top out is around $130k a year. Those are true for where I work. Thats based on 40 hours a week. Not counting built in overtime and holidays.

Nobody is making over 115k without overtime.

I don’t know a single operator with more than two years experience that has made less than 130k in the last five years.
And I have friends that hate ot and stay at less than two hundred hours each year. They are around 150 or more at those hours.

If you do count the “ ot” on the last 4 hours of each shift then yes some of us are. Without coming into work and refusing all offered overtime it is true at some places.

Up to my post zero actual information on pay had been provided. Just conjecture that was way off. You really are an operator, a dumbass wrench hand that thinks he's smart

I didnt make excuses a long time ago and went to college. I make a lot more than $50 an hour and don’t have to work at a plant

I went to college, got a degree, worked white collar. Hated white collar work and the cock sucking office environment and people.

I chose to transition from white collar to a plant nine years ago. Best decision I ever made. Enjoy the work, the people, the pay and benefits. frick a Monday through Friday gig. Give me shift work any day.

You’re wrong. Plenty make that on a 40 hour base salary. That’s around $55 an hour basically.

If you have a strong work ethic and want it, it is there for the taking. The job is meant for both mentally and physically strong men--I sense you have a problem with that by your sarcastic comment and I am sorry I offended you. My post was purely informative and gives a roundhouse estimate to OPs original question.

I am an engineer with 10 years experience and make about $75/hr. Yeah some of these guys make much more, but I work less than 40 hours a week and it if I don’t feel like driving to work, I work from home. I am home every night and weekend and never miss any of my kids stuff, even if it’s in the middle of a work day. I’ll take 50k less a year for that flexibility, yall can have the OT.

There’s pros to being an engineer for sure. But it’s nice to hit a 3 day set of overtime and make a couple thousand extra on a check too. The unit I work in is overstaffed most of the time so we can take off at the last minute if we need to. We also do shift swaps to take get days off to do things with family and stuff. Works out well most of the time. I rarely miss an activity for my kids and wife and make a great living. My situation is not the norm for sure though.
