Not gonna lie-the time, money, having to take pictures, etc. of being a groomsman kind of sucks. But you do it because you're a good friend.
probably the biggest fight my wife and i got in was whether or not the groomsmen needed to rent tuxes or wear their own. Basically making me ask my friends to get scammed out of $300 plus late fees cause their hungover arse wasn't making it to the rental place by 9.
MIL and wife said they had to, despite it being the one thing i ask for. I told them they had to but said i don't really care just wear a black tux. I knew that my friends would just wear their own regardless
years later if it gets brought up my MIl and wife will get charged up about it. I was right, no one gives cares what the groomsmen are wearing as long as its a black tux. No one has ever been like "that dudes collar is different, this marriage is doomed"

Only once, but I had a threeway with two bridesmaids that night

I've always said I think it's such arse that the tux rental places require it back so early. Like I understand needing it by EOD Monday for cleaning/tailoring, but before lunchtime on Sunday is insane.

Zero. the only wedding I was "in" was my roommate in college. he got married in a park on campus a few days after he graduated. It was me, the couple, the preacher and his wife. that was it. I was ring bearer and witness.

I have a massive girlfriend group, but we're old at this point.
The thought of obese old women is making this not one of my prouder faps...

11, and none of them are still married. I’m bad luck and refuse to serve in any more.

Tuxes aren’t $300 to rent now so they certainly weren’t years ago
And your wife was right, different tuxes are going to be different colors which would look like shite

Why would anyone want more than 4-6 max?
Believe it or not people do have multiple friends and/or big families.
Goodluck picking and choosing siblings/ best friends to get the boot.
If its a money issue its understandable but again goodluck picking and choosing.

5 or 6. Now I’m a perpetual pallbearer. Including 2 weeks ago. The cycle of life .

How Much Does a Tux Rental Cost?
According to data from The Knot 2023 Real Weddings Study, the average cost for a male partner to rent ceremony attire was $200. While this is a great baseline to keep in mind, it's important to note that this number refers to a range of attire types—think everything from suits to custom tuxedos. Many major tux rental retailers, like The Black Tux and Men's Wearhouse, come in at $150 as their average tux rental cost. Depending on the type of tux and the potential addition of accessories, to-be-weds can generally expect tux rental costs to fall between $150 and $300.

a black tux is black, the difference is the collar. No one gives a shite what the groomsmen are wearing

You just posted something confirming I’m right, especially when you factor in 20%+ inflation since 2020
So thanks?
