I don't often get to plan when I leave. If I'm waiting for the kids to get out of school, I'm not waiting until the evening to drive just so I can start right after dinner. We are going to leave at 3. Just pretty typical that we end up crossing over lunch or dinner on those drives. I'm probably doing it every other month both ways. I'm not scheduling my whole day around not wanting to stop for 15-20 minutes.

My point was actually that I rarely find a reason to stop more than that though. Even with little kids, restroom breaks and stretching gets covered in that one stop and no need for anything more.

Stop once for gas/food/bathroom and then power through.

I would prefer to only stop once on an 7-8 hour ride, but will make a quick second stop for gas again if necessary.

Where do you have to be that you can’t pull over for 3 minutes to go pee in a bathroom?

I’m over 60. I piss every hour.

I also have a 4 door truck and pull on shoulder to piss. Open both passenger doors and piss between. I’m not pulling off unless I need food or fuel.

It’s a 60 second stop.

everyone in this thread is lying...if you live in south Louisiana and you drive 5 hours in either direction on I-10 everyone of you white trash trailer parker mf'rs are stopping at a Buccee's

My 4 year old has no clue what a Buccee's is. I couldn't tell you the last time I stepped foot in one. Probably 2019 when driving to Austin with friends for the LSU game.

ETA: And I've driven to Florida probably 5+ times since then.

Usually once, maybe twice if I need a restroom, food, and coffee. That could be 2 or 3 different places.

Depends entirely on who all is on the trip. Whole family plus the dog, probably 3 times. Just me, probably once for gas.

Several years ago, my wife and at the time young daughter were at the beach with my Mom. They rode down with her, and I was working most of the week, and was going to join them for a long weekend. I shot her a text when I was leaving work. She was surprised I was there 3 hours later, said they weren't expecting me before 10:00. Yeah, when you don't have to stop and deal with multiple restroom breaks, changing diapers, dinner etc you can get places fast.

This highly depends on what there to stop and see.

kookie looking lunch spot? SURE
states largest pumpkin winner? SURE
mountainous creekside? SURE
anything that is abnormal? SURE!

Otherwise....no stops... unless its the bathroom and really needed.

Or is it five hours that it takes you to get from Baton Rouge to Lake Charles?

Depends. Am I stuck in the traffic from the daily wreck on the Basin Bridge? I've taken as long as 7 hours before due to this engineering marvel.

I always laugh at the "I DrOvE tWeLvE hOuRs sTraigHt bAw" crowd. frick that. When I travel, if I want to stop at every exit, I'm doing it. I am not going to travel uncomfortably. If I have to piss, I'm stopping at a bathroom, like a human being. The insanity of torturing yourself just so you can say you "drove straight through" is unreal to me.

When I was 18, sure. In my 30s? I learned a long time ago that the hour or so you save on a road trip by driving like a maniac is not worth it.

Have to worry about cops.
Constantly tailing people.
Fights with people in the car who need to stop but know you won’t like it.

All of that is not worth it and I learned that the first time I made a road trip with my wife.

They have to pee. Let them pee. They enjoy the trip. You should also try to enjoy the trip. Being there sooner is not worth being a tyrant and pissed off on the road.

Not stopping because then I would have to pass up again all the assholes I spent the last 4 hours passing.

Depends on if I’m trying to get out ahead of bad weather and the frequency of gas stations ahead. Drove from St Louis to just outside of Texarkana straight once trying to get out of the worst of a blizzard a few years back at Christmas time. Similarly if I’m going thru East Oklahoma or any stretch where there won’t be gas for a while I will stop and top off even if nature isn’t calling. My kids are older teenagers now and don’t need the breaks as much.

Normally once on way from Houston to BR. Twice from Houston to 30A. So, once every 4 hours or so on average

What about multiple young kids and a wife?

We’d probably stop three times between BR and somewhere like Gulf Shores

When my kids were young and we headed to the beach (from Tuscaloosa, 4.5 hours away) I would leave at 3am. Wife and kids slept all the way and woke up there. Nice and quiet trip, no stops.

Then I would take a nap that afternoon under the tent.
