Dec 11, 2016 voters vote to rededicate the1/2 cent sales tax in place for Green Light 1,but vote no to a new 5 mill property tax and Kip Holden's 30 year 600 million dollar road plan. Green Light 2 is shot down.

Sept 13, 2017 EBR Metro Council voted against putting Mayor Broome's Better Roads and Transportation Plan on the November 18 ballot bowing to public pressure and a lack of faith in the mayor. The plan would have been financed by a thirty year property tax raising 450 million dollars. The 1/2 cent GL1 tax would be rededicated and expire in 2030 as it was originally passed.

Upcoming Dec 8, 2018 are to vote on Broome's MoveBR plan. The 1.1 Billion dollar plan is to be financed by a new 1/2 cent sales tax(the original GL1 tax will remain until 2030) and will run for 30 years. It is an enormous plan. It's 400 million dollars bigger than Kip Holden's original Green Light 1 which is still incomplete.

After two failures to pass a road plan, the current mayor has doubled down and is pushing a plan over two and a half times as big as her first one that she put forward just a year ago.

What's changed? Has she gained voter confidence by proving herself? I don't think so. Or is new plan a big push by connected folks who would profit from the work? It appears so.
There is a big fat management contract to be divided up, engineering jobs and of course huge construction jobs. Then there is also millions of dollars of technology business and that brings in even more support. Of course all of this brings in campaign donations.

But will EBRougeans fed up with gridlock finally give in and vote for this beast? That's the big question.
There is something in this for everyone, and that might get it through.

I Supported GL2, and plan on supporting MovEBR. It’s either pay this tax, or pay in gas sitting in traffic over a period of time.

I vote no to every single new tax that is passed... mainly because I'm not getting that back in services. State and local government is asking way too much if it expects me to trust them.

At least if you pay in gas by sitting in traffic you know where your money went...up in smoke, same as if they pass this tax

I always vote no for taxes. They should do some layoffs and audits instead of asking for more money

May early vote no tomorrow. I think it will pass though. They always slip new taxes through in very low turnout elections.

Sorry, but I have zero faith that our current leadership will be able to address this enormous challenge in an effective and timely manner. Much less on budget.

We are taxed out of the arse already. We need better people planning and managing our city parish.

I'm voting no.

If that passes, most of the funds will be pissed away or they'll be tapping into the fund to pay for some other shite. I seriously doubt BR will see any major road improvements if it goes through.

I’m voting no as long as Tarsha and her cronies get to keep on keeping on.

If Grimace would have been held accountable, I’d consider voting yes.

No confidence that this administration would have that tax revenue not be squandered.

The last thing you want to do is give EBR more money.

This is the parish that wisely manages CATS, is affiliated with the EBR Council on Aging, oversees the Baton Rouge Zoo, and built our lovely downtown library.

Some of you folks want to give them more money? Seriously? Do you really think even half of that money will be spent properly on improving our roads?

Anyone that votes for this are the biggest suckers on the planet.

I say the same thing regarding a gas tax or any new state tax. But you can bet posters will show up saying “as long as it’s dedicated” or “we have to pay for it if we want nice things” without ever considering how much we already give in taxes. And how little we get in return

You could literally fire the entire EBR payroll and still not touch the amount of money required for the desparately needed road improvements.

The GL plan was a tremendous success. It wasn't able to complete all of the projects due to the explosion in construction costs but it got the huge ones done like the Central Thruway and the Oneal improvements

Baton Rouge is already one of the top 5 overleveraged cities in the nation.

LINK

I also want to know why parish dollars are responsible for improving state and federal highways.

EBR has had only one comprehensive plan for infrastructure in the last 50 years. There is just no point in pushing that narrative onto trying to address traffic.
