Because the same citizens voting NO for local taxes are also voting NO on state taxes...

This was already done with some roads under the Green Light Plan. Where was the complaining about that then? Even with that, do most people IRL really care that much about the difference among state, federal, and local roads as long as the work gets done?

We aren't under taxed. We pay higher tax rates than a lot of states like TN, TX, AZ, NC.. Etc. We are ranked #27

I have been advocating for a new state constitution for years. WAAAAAAYYYYYY too many fiscally protected agencies and dedicated monies. There's no flexible way to cut spending in a downturn which is what really hurt higher education during the Jindal admin

I'm aware, but that doesn't answer the question. It's a symptom of a larger problem.

I do. Using I-10 as a hypothetical, why should a single parish bear the largest burden of a regional problem on a federal highways? That's arse-backwards.
Similar to the SG issue, this is going to continue to grow neighboring parishes at the expense of EBRP. It's short-sighted.

We're over leveraged and running taxes out for 30 years now.
I don't know about you, but odds are I won't live to see it expire.

The GL plan was a tremendous success. It wasn't able to complete all of the projects due to the explosion in construction costs but it got the huge ones done like the Central Thruway and the Oneal improvements
Relatively speaking, Green light was probably one of the better get-what-you-pay-for major projects. I can’t imagine what traffic would be like without it. I would put money on some critics here having not even bothered to look at the new plan.

We've actually had two.
A billion dollar plus sewer program that gets bigger every year, and GL1.
You could also add in the major school building plans, the library expansions and BREC's capital programs.

Considering how I-10 is actually being funded, I’m not understanding where you’re getting at.

Our age is one thing, but thinking about the commitment of my kids for that length of time is insane. I pray they get the hell away from BR, LA, and take me with them some day.

The MOVEbr plan is a sales tax funded plan. Meaning anyone who buys anything in EBR pays the tax. Pretty fair to me.
I agree we need a regional transit plan but the outlying parishes have already proven to be against it.

It was until Broome took over. You can't even get project updates on their website any longer.
The fact that they can't finish is a black eye to a good plan.
The latest plan is a huge grab bag. Too big, and not in sync with the rest of the region.

Louisiana needs better roads / infrastructure.
Louisiana is insanely corrupt.
Louisiana voters will not give insanely corrupt officials more money until they can prove they can actually handle said money.
Roads don't get fixed, young professionals leave, state stays shitty.
Rinse and repeat.

It had nothing to do with Broome.
quote:
"At this point in the life of the Green Light Plan program, the available bond moneys have been expended as laid out in the original voters' referendum. Program funds are now limited to annual appropriations or the typical 'pay-as-you-go' model. It takes much longer for adequate right-of-way and construction funds for the larger type projects to become available, which spreads out the periods for reportable information. "With the program now reaching the 'pay-as-you-go' phase, some program activities have been discontinued or consolidated with other activities. This action may give the appearance that the GLP website is inactive; it is not. If a closer look is taken at the individual project summary pages, an updated date and time stamp would be found at the bottom of the page. Every project is reviewed for recent activity and the individual project summary page is brought current. The new date and time stamp is amended for each page. Even a project that has been reviewed and found to not have any recent activity will receive the current updated date and time. The GLP Program Team has been performing end-of-the-year audits for each active project and will release the updated project pages in the near future.
"As the overall program begins to wind down, several program initiatives have moved into close-out procedures. Research is currently being performed as to the most efficient delivery of future GLP activity to the public through the GLP website. The City of Baton Rouge and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development websites continue to be a public resource and are linked in the GLP website.

Other than building a billion dollar bridge by shitting gold bars out of their own asses, how do you suggest they prove it?

I agree.
I don't mind sacrificing for the public good, but the very same people in power who warn those of us in SG of high taxes and abuse of power, are raising our taxes every chance they get and abusing their power by spending the parish into deep debt,
How can folks trust Broome to hire a competent program manager when she couldn't hire her chief aid or a police chief unless they were black, And look at the CP Council. They couldn't hire an airport director.
When it's time to hire a program manager, engineers, and contractors it's gonna be a free for all as they all run to the feeding trough.

Who pays more in EBRP sales tax, EBRP Residents or people who pass through?

You're arguing semantics, they vote it down by electing politicians who refuse to agree to any new revenue regardless of how important it is to our state.
Lafayette is/was in a jobs decline...imagine if the state had the ability to have built the I-49 corridor. It would have helped attract new business and hopefully diversify the economy which would have softened the impact.
Infrastructure funding is almost as important as military spending in terms of where gov't should focus their tax revenue.
