re: How many of you with dogs refer to yourself as their daddy or momma?

We do all the time. I’m always petting my girl talking about “mean mommy” cleaning her ears, taking her to the vet, etc. where “daddy” is always petting her and giving her treats.
I’m definitely winning the battle of hearts and minds.

Dog parents are fricking weird.

We don’t deserve them. Dogs are better than the human species and sent by God to reflect His unconditional love.
OP, yes. We will refer to each other as mom or dad. But stop at fur kid. That’s a nope. Also prefer the term “guardian,” vs “owner.”

They don’t have souls. When they are dead they are dead.

I won't even venture to get into it because it's not that important of a topic.

we are NOT her parents
Considering many raise their dogs from a pup, teaching them how to behave socially, providing food and shelter when it can’t do it for itself, amongst other “parenting” type things, I have no issue with it.
With that said, don’t compare your dog to my kids and don’t expect me to treat it with the same regard as a human being.

I agree 100% with post and cringe anytime I hear someone say "dog mom" or "cat dad" or some other variation.
Years ago, I had a neighbor who used to refer to everybody as "Cat daddy." It used to drive everyone crazy too.

Many of them really are, especially those that need to drag their dogs everywhere they go like it's a toddler you can't leave at home for a few hours to visit friends, go to a bar to have a cocktail or grab a bite to eat somewhere.
Those insufferable twits frost my nuts.

Yes. Those and the ones who push a dog stroller. Your dog wants to walk, run and sniff. Not sit in a damn stroller.

I’m a cat daddy. She’s my precious. I think dogs/cats over human kids is one of the best, most sound financial decisions you can make. Takes a lot for a woman to overcome that maternal instinct, like brains.

I don’t refer to myself as her daddy but others refer to me be being her daddy.
I do tell people she’s my daughter until I have human kids and I will treat her as one. Which does mean setting expectations for her.

Depends on how one defines the term, I would imagine. If you look at the etymology, usage has become progressively more expansive for the last half millennium. Just depends on where you want to stop the bus.
