Everytime I've went i feel like i can't get help, the people I talk to, i have almost absolutely nothing in common with them.

Very different life experiences, different ways of life.

Be honest. How long? Do you find it has benefitted you? Is your therapist a psychologist, a counselor, an LCSW, or a full blown shrink?

Yo. Every other week for years. He's a therapist who specializes in certain issues. My wife hasn't left me, I've dropped a lot of bad habits, and I'm much more efficient with work so I'd say it's been beneficial. I eat right and work out five days a week which helps, too.

My wife and I went to a grief counselor last year for one session. Neither of us felt if was very beneficial and we did not continue the therapy.

I guess it was hard to truthfully open up to a complete stranger over extremely personal and difficult issues.

Dude, you need more than one session. It takes at least 5 for a therapist to learn who he is actually dealing with and for you to admit some of your actual shames and not ones you just repeat to your best buddies.

I did a year with a LCSW to help with my father’s passing. It helped tremendously.

I’m a lot better now, but I had severe depression and anxiety in my late teens, which led to me dropping out of high school. I was hospitalized twice

Yes. Since June. I go every week for an hour.

I tried to go about 6 years ago and it didn't work out well.

This time I do think it is helping. She is a LCSW. Older lady. Very much involved in teaching skills and tactical stuff. Has helped me re-look at how I approach life's challenges and issues. Taught me to step back a lot more, try to be more patient, try to be calmer.

She's not at all a "cry on the couch" therapist. She's focused on me just being a better person.

Not currently, but have been to both a psychologist and psychiatrist in my past. Therapy is awesome, even though they all urged me to quit smoking pot.

My ex (who is a therapist herself) thought we should go to one for couple counseling, meaning everything was my fault and she was perfect. Well after 20 minutes in session, the therapist focused 100% on my ex, basically telling her that someone was the problem but it wasn't LSUPERMAN. Afterwards, all I heard was how horrible she was and we are going to see another one.

Month later, rinse and repeat. Different therapist, same results.

She quit couples therapy.

About 2 and a half years
It’s actually a therapist employed by the firm to get the best performance out of all of us
I’m still here and crushing it, so I’d say it works

Let me tell ya something. Nowadays, everybody’s gotta go to shrinks, and counselors, and go on “Sally Jessy Raphael” and talk about their problems. What happened to Gary Cooper? The strong, silent type. That was an American. He wasn’t in touch with his feelings. He just did what he had to do.

He was gay, Gary Cooper?

I tried therapy for a while, but it jist led to more resentment, so I quit ans decided to swallow and suppress it.....I am much happier now.

Even though weed has tons of medicinal qualities, anxiety and depression being some of them?

Everybody would benefit from therapy.

This is NOT true. It might work great for you, but don’t project your issues on others. I’m extremely well adjusted. I think I’m wonderful. I enjoy the hell out of life. When I’m injured, and in pain, or ill, I’m still having fun. Why the heck would I benefit from therapy?

I agree - I had a friend in college that had been going to therapy since she was 9 for a terrible, terrible incident

However - she was so messed up after her therapy sessions - I think they hurt her more than helped - and it got to the point that I think she mightve been lying about the incident - I’m not really sure, but I think she made up a lot of things afterwards

She was one of the first people I flat out told I couldn’t be friends with anymore - I’ve heard from mutual friends that she’s an assistant principal now - which is kind of scary but maybe she got past all the junk
