Same here, almost lasted 10 hours last time my power was knocked out.
UPC is overkill for the cameras because it also has our computers hooked up to it. They were already disconnected with Zeta about to be a direct hit.

I have quite a few cameras. All are POE back to the DVR. The DVR is on an oversized UPC. I didn't install any of this, but the guy who built the house worked for Aramco doing security systems for plants and bases.

I have two elderly female neighbors. The notice more than any security camera system

Damn dude, if you're living in an area this bad then the cops aren't going to solve your crime anyway. It's not Chrismastime, but did you just watch DieHard or something?
The good news is if some criminal has an idea to cut the power to knock out cameras, then it will probably be with Loping shears and the result will be less than ideal for them. We had some criminals trying to steal copper out of an old mill cut into the main 1400v line killing 1 instantly and sending the other to the hospital from the explosion of his partner. IMO, you're thinking too hard about it. Get some cameras and set them out and you'll see that the roving bands of idiots stealing crap don't notice cameras.

5 wireless scattered around my property. I mounted the cameras to trees high enough to give a good FOV. Cameras are also well camouflaged. That doesn't stop squirrels from taking selfies.

If someone wants to break into your house badly enough to go as far as cutting your power, then the cameras probably aren’t going to stop them anyway.
All of these pieces to your home security setup are intended to make it incrementally harder or riskier for a criminal to steal your shite. It’s about deterrence. But someone who is motivated will always be able to get around it unless you really go overboard.
It’s why I laugh when people talk about stuff like the type of hinge pins you use on your exterior doors - if someone’s willing to take your door off the hinges, they’re probably capable of finding another way into your house.

What would be the upside to tapping into your home’s power supply other than forgetting to change the batteries prior to leaving town for instance?
You are definitely over thinking this. Your average criminal doesn't have Ocean's 11 skills. Most would be electrocuted trying to cut the power off.

Home Alone. He is worried about the wet bandits.

Thief's don't care if there are cameras. The ones with half a brain conceal their identity with a hoodie and a mask. If they do happen to get caught they receive little if any punishment

I bought some fairly cheap ones on Amazon and rigged them up. They run off a small solar panel. With the app they’re pretty easy to use.

If you have a wireless camera with a battery or battery back up. How does it record if your wifi network is down due to no power
Posted on 8/10/21 at 12:45 pm to Mike da Tigah
I don't have any type of security system.
Hopefully nobody knows that I live at 1066 West Addison.

You really need to be careful of them dressing up like telephone repair men and climbing the pole and doing all kinds of stuff up in the wires.

'Big Name Brand' wifi camera system, 'Big Name Brand' alarm system, and battery back up for essential home systems....that's all I'll share with internet strangers

My house, 16 channel, 10 cameras (1080P). BNC connections to a 2TB hard drive. 6 cameras are 90 degree and the other 4 are 130 degree. My rental property has 8 channel, 8 cameras, all 90 degree also BNC. I got mine from Lorex Technologies. I have them on my network so I can watch both properties from my laptop or phone app. Love it.

It doesnt. I have a UPS on my modem and router so I have a little while after an outage that my network will still be online. After the UPS dies, I'm SOL.
