And if so, are you hard wired, plugged in, or batteried up?

Maybe I’m overthinking this, but it seems to me that the criminal element is getting smarter and smarter out there, and all one has to do is cut the power to your house to disable cameras. What would be the upside to tapping into your home’s power supply other than forgetting to change the batteries prior to leaving town for instance?

Tech board. There's a massive on going thread there.

LINK

Also, if you're worried about someone cutting power to your house, lock your power box or hook up your cameras/NVR to a UPS.

Forgot we had a Tech board, but it’s also disabled if the power goes out as well.

Good way to really piss off the fire department...

OP, look into one of those battery stations and disconnect a few of the cameras to get longer battery life out of it.

I have 2 hard wired and 3 battery powered.

Every 2 months or so, I move the battery powered camera to different places. In the event of someone scoping out my place, I keep em moving.

Hard wired except for the one in the garage.

7 Outside Cams
4 Inside Cams (Kitch/Dining, Living Room/Guest Bath/Garage)

Only the outside ones record, the inside ones are mostly to see if the dogs are in the kennel or not.

POE with NVR and all switches on UPS's. Most exterior cameras all have overlapping views of each other.

Are you running in a W10 VM or have a computer dedicated just for it?

This is probably true, to some extent, in the aggregate.

But it's always hilarious to me when security experts talk about criminals being able to run through the possible combinations to your 4 digit safe within minutes, use your power tools to cult safe bolts or circumvent motion detectors like they're French art thieves.

Maybe that's true in some parts of the country, but around here 95% of the home invaders and burglars can't read, have no idea how electricity works and could give a shite if they get caught on camera because going back to jail to them means absolutely nothing.

They carry bolt cutters on every fire engine. They could get it off if needed.

I know what you're thinking but to me, it's a "safety" issue here. Several years ago we had "kids" coming through neighborhoods and "Power boxing" (turning off the main power on the outside power box) folks. They hit one family in our neighborhood that was out of town during Christmas vacation. This also corresponded to a big cold snap. Since their furnace went out, all of the pipes in the house froze. It cost them tens of thousands of dollars in repairs.

FWIW, it was the fire department that recommended folks locking their boxes...

Any evidence of this actually happening outside of movies? Seems like some Russian spy or maybe Mexican cartel type shite (can’t say I am too concerned about either).
