Go see an audiologist. They will give better results.

If it involves job related hearing loss, I can answer your questions. I am at greater than 50% on my right ear and just below 50% on my left. Raging tinnitus that drives me bonkers when I think about it (as I am doing now). I have trained myself to just ignore it.
To answer your original question, the testing equipment at the big box store is the same as what you will see at an audiologist office. The difference is the person reading it and their medical plan. If you are willing to discuss medical interventions and / or hearing aids, go see the doc. If not, the test you took tells you that you need to protect what you have left. Protect it aggressively, you can’t get it back.
Funny story, when I worked for the government I applied for a job that was supposed to be a lateral transfer but it moved me across Departments. They asked me to complete a full physical, just like a new hire, at the last minute and I was concerned as I knew I couldn’t meet the hearing standards. I happened to be living in a very small community at the time on the southern border and went to my primary care physicians office. He had an old Battle Axe Nurse. She looked at the government physical paperwork and saw “Audiological Exam” and said “Hell we don’t have one of those machines”. She walked across the room and held my patient file over her mouth and said “Cab you hear me?” To which I replied “Yes” and she then told me I passed the “Whisper Test” and marked me down as having perfect hearing. I still laugh about it to this day.

oddly enough, the best hearing test I've ever had was at the VA in Jackson, MS...
I have tinnitus and hearing aids, but I don't particularly like to wear them...after a couple of hours, they drive me nuts....

For me left ear is worse than right and that is without a test.

I have tinnitus from guns, loud engines, and helicopters.
I definitely have trouble processing voices in loud environments.
Another thing that I have is I get real angry when hearing a lawnmower or weed eater. Not sure if that is related but when the yard man comes around I feel like going bash his head in with a rock .

I’ve had hereditary hearing loss my entire life. I’m close to 70% in my left ear

I have conductive hearing loss and tinnitis courtesy of the United States Navy.
If there is a lot of background noise, I can't hear sh*t. If you speak at a certain frequency range, I won't hear you
I refuse to file for disability though. I've made a good life for myself and do not want Uncle Sam's handout.

I am deaf as hell in my right ear. Too much raving at clubs back in the day. It has caught up with me

Oh, how awful. What a cross to bear.

For me, it was too much Kicker 12" subs in the back of my S-10 Blazer bumping a Bass Mechanic cassette. Just nonstop bass for hours at a time, fricking stupid kid.

Go see a real ENT that specializes in ears and get it worked up. I had a conductive hearing loss in one ear - had a bone replaced in the ear and now hear at normal levels. Some problems can be fixed and some can’t.

I lost more then 50% of my hearing. Was in a explosion way back in 1987. From that point my ears ring all the time. Had a test done last year and they told me I do need Hearing Aids. Asked them why? Told them I just don't want to hear crap when I don't feel like it.
