How many of you can't hear for shot (hearing exam / loss)?

Recently, while waiting in one of those big box warehouse stores, I had a hearing exam. According to this exam, I have 37 % hearing loss in my left ear and 31 % hearing loss in my right ear, which the person examining me said that they were surprised, given my age.
I apparently have trouble (which I can't necessarily disagree with) hearing women and children (higher frequencies) in louder environments, where background noise makes it more difficult for me to understand them.
How accurate are these tests considering their environment (granted, I was in a soundproof testing room)? There has been no sales pitch to me at this time. Testing was free and even if I decide to go back to do a further test, it is free as well. I imagine their is an end game, i.e. hearing aids, where they will recoup their time and make a profit.
I haven't subjected myself to loud noises in many years. Curious if this is hereditary?
Is there an audiologist in the Baton Rouge area that the OT recommends for a second opinion?

I can't hear the highest pitch sound that the test makes.
Between loud music, guns, and ear infections as a kid,it's pretty bad.

Do you find that you watch people’s mouths when they talk to you? People with hearing loss do this and don’t even know it

The audiologist mentioned this to me. If I do it, I'm not aware (or I wasn't) until they notified me. I always establish eye contact with people (out of respect), so it's quite possible that I have done this for a while.

I’ve got tinnitus that comes and goes. Haven’t been in a movie theater since my wife made me take her to the last Harry Potter film, Harry Potter 39-The Quest for Celebrex.
I recommend you watch It’s All Gone Pete Thong.

I have a near deaf Uncle (from working in plants and stuff, rock concerts) who stressed to ke when I went for work as an iron worker to always wear hearing protection and I do. I even wear ear plugs to cut grass and weed eat. I had yearly hearing test and never had an issue. I really cant stand to be around loud noises.

I'm always amazed at the number of people that go to rock concerts and don't give a shite about what it does to their ears.
Guess its uncool to care.

I went to my ENT.
All these years of having ear infections caught up with me.
He put a magnet behind my ear to stimulate the hearing for that ear. You have a magnet in your head and put another magnet on top outside of the skin to stimulate the components inside the ear.
It is great when the wife talks you can take it off and go back to a relaxed free uh hu, I hear you, yes or no, nod, and throw in an I see.

Between Walkmans, ipods, loud car stereos... Much of this generation will have hearing aids at some point.
