<---- Oldest is at Belmont
<---- Youngest has been accepted to Univ. Illinois, Elon, and Indiana. Hasn't made a decision yet.

How do you get a waiver? Scholarship?

Lots of surrounding schools poach kids from Texas that aren't quite in the top 10% of their high school. If you're not familiar......You finish in the top 10% in a Texas high school you automatically get into a Texas public school. This makes Texas and even A&M difficult to get into if you are in a very strong school district with high achievers. Since even kids from crappy high schools get an auto in, it leaves lots of very capable kids to either go some place like Texas State or Texas Tech or go out of state. Schools like Arkansas, Ole Miss, OU, etc offer out of state cost waivers to attract high achieving students.

I go the wavier unsolicited from a number of SEC schools 15 years ago when I was looking at colleges.

Are they going to have any scholarships?

I am sure they will..they are Juniors and haven't gotten that far yet....I thought about going the route that I would match only in-state amount and they need to find a way to get the rest by whatever combination necessary. Getting some good advice here...thanks.

Buddy of mines kid wanted to do Petroleum Engineering at LSU (we live in Bama). Because the states schools don't offer it, little ducker got a $75000 scholly. That was on top of the 75k LSU gave him.

Do any schools in Bama offer incentives to people in relationships with their siblings or first cousins?

I've already told my oldest (the other is to young to understand), that the only way you get to go out of state for college and I foot the bill is LSU.

Wait, LSU would be the only one? Not Harvard or Yale, but LSU.

You're white trash.

I grew up in Florida. My mom insisted on me and my siblings going to school out of state. She wanted us to "see the world". It also helped that she was a Gator Hater. That's how I ended up at LSU in the first place.

After a career in the Air Force, I now live in Alabama. First two sons went to in-state schools on full scholarship, Montevallo and Auburn. The offered money was too good, and the out of state guys weren't offering enough.

Third son is at the Naval Academy. You don't turn that down.

Fourth son has better PSAT scores than all of the others. He will get some really good offers.

Arkansas and the two SEC MS schools had very attainable OOS waivers when I was applying.

Oh I know. Three of my friends ended I there. Good excuse to visit while I was in undergrad. My parents messed up by basically funding god knows how many trips I wouldn't have taken had I been at NYU.

I was 100% going out of state before visiting LSU for a literary rally. Went to Sports and got shite house, didn't even show up for the test I was supposed to take...came home and told my folks I was going to LSU. I hadn't even taken the ACT.

Is it bad I want my oldest to go out of state. She wants to be a paleontologist, and Ohio state is one of the best schools for that field. But she is pretty much genius, so no worries about cost.

If you can find a way to pay; let them go. Give them them the opportunity to experience a different part of the country. Roots and wings my friend, it's all about roots and wings.

I really want to...that is why I put it out here on the OT. The 2 at once thing is mind boggling..I just want to cover all the bases so they have a choice and a chance.

I would have allowed it.

But she'd have needed to figure a way to pay room and board plus tuition since I live 15 min from UA.

take a look at the directional schools....

my youngest ended up at SLU for nursing and it turned out to be far cheaper to send her there than to go in-state anywhere in Maryland...
