We've got around 4k dead in this country. It is heartbreaking, but many of these people were already on death's doorstep for reasons wholly unrelated to the Covid. No one is suggesting it is not serious. But to put it in medical terms, a treatment or cure that destroys the patient in the effort to stop the virus is no good. Some of the measures being bandied about are going to destroy this country as we know it. To answer your question, it is going to get a hell of a lot worse than it currently is to justify these measures.

More than what the final tally will ultimately end up being. When the dust settles, I doubt there will be 50,000 total deaths in the United States and won't be surprised if there are less than 20,000 from this virus.

You have a better chance of getting hit by a car than having fatal complications from Covid. Relax!

People will lose their businesses and jobs that they may not get back. I wish those of you who harp on the very worst scenarios for the virus would not simultaneously understate the economic harm being done.

Sorry you're poor. Maybe you can start a GoFundMe to pay your rent until July? My parents both in their early 70s are and good health but obviously at risk due to age. To me its worth missing a few paychecks to see my kids graduate school.

I guarantee every single one of them have a job of some sort that will not be affected. Government and/or healthcare or something that feeds off of those two.

And if that's not the case, their tune will be changing very, very fast when they're laid off.

I’m sure you’d hate to see the market like it is if you were about to retire.

Woah. My job is fine and I don’t think we should be bowing down to this

Hey. Just realized you're up here. You're still going in to the office? I'm actually working from home in NJ. I hear from people in the city that it's kind of surreal.

Why don't you tell that to the families of those who will end up committing suicide over this? I'm sure they will appreciate your sentiments.

how successful can a restaurant owner be if many of his essential personal is sick? Who wants to eat a steak from an infected chef or have their food severed by an infected waiter? I really don't think you guys are thinking this thru. Sure most young adults will only develop flu like symptoms but are we forgetting that we also do not allow those same folks to work if they have those symptoms? add to that this virus being much more contagious than the normal flu and thats just asking for trouble.

The people at risk know who they are

Obviously, there are exceptions, but people die during routine surgery.

I’m not against waiting out the peak of this before resuming normal life, but cancelling the rest of the year is insanity.

Hopefully if you’re in your 70s your 401k has been collecting long enough that it shouldn’t be that much of an issue (probably what 40-50 years?)

Old people and people with underlying health issues that make them high risk would still be free to self quarantine themselves.

Let 75% of the population who aren't high risk get back to work and go about their lives and keep the economy afloat while the 25% or so who are high risk can stay home.
