Help me understand why gas is more expensive today than it was 10 years ago at $90/barrel?

10 years ago…2013 & 2014, when oil was $90/bbl+, appears the national average price of gasoline was higher than today.

Or are you asking about natural gas?

Honestly, look who has rhe lead on Guyana exploration.

You mentioned Guyana. What is the skinny on CNOOC? The Chinese State company?

Are they going to be "invited to pursue other opportunities"?

That would leave Hess, Exxon and TTE is the Stabroek Block. If US policy is to get China out of South America the don't want CNOOC on the border in Guyana, and Guyana is ostensibly an ally...

A decade likely. It’s been a while since any competent maintenance has been done on the existing facilities and I’d be willing to bet a ton are simply un-operational at this point.

bullshite. American refineries are almost all built specifically to run Venezuelan crude and we have been searching high and low to find heavy crude.

We’ve been getting the absolute shitiest quality of oil from Canada to supplement.

Well, yeah.

Why wouldn't they? It isn't who gets what it is about who controls what.

The US having debatable control over the source has introduced millions in adjustments and potential losses.

Yeah, I've heard between 10-20 years with 10 being if everything goes right.

ETA: So, that means we have a vassal state that imports 80% of their food supplies that we have to keep alive for the next decade at best...if we are really "running the place". Not saying it's a bad move, but it's a lot more longterm and complicated than what has been bandied about.

I mean, everything you said is factually wrong. But you believe it a lot, so sure.

Their oil is shite and will run far below what normal oil runs at. Good news is that they can extract for a lot lower price.

Just as shite as the heavy crude from the ME.

Meh
Trump has nothing to do with how this oil will get to the market and when unless he throws a lot of US money at the situation.

I can't really say because IDK much about the O&G industry.

But I have been reading that the VZ oil pipe line infrastructure is nearly 50 years old and is need of some major repairs.

A lot of the people who were actually working in the Oil industry in VZ left many years ago. Some have died off, some have retired, some have moved on to other fields.
Lots of know-how is going to take years to replenish.

Trump will likely be in the ground before this project is close to finished.
