As soon as we had no choice but to walk out of our front doors and interact with each other, it would quickly go to shite. We’re a community of polite nods, occasional waves, & almost zero socializing.

An item that I never considered to be valuable in these situations until I saw it recently is jugs of cheap vodka and everclear. Great bartering items.

Probably 3 days. When you can't get fuel or food, things deteriorate quickly.

I live in the middle of millions of people. I'd be dead within hours.

I have enough food in the freezer, natural gas and propane bottles to cook with, and enough ammo to keep my family and I alive for at least a month in desperate times. I also live next to a bunch of woods and can kill numerous animals for which to consume.
My FIL has a still that produces vodka and bourbon with a good bit of reserve. He also lives on a pond full of fish a few short miles away.
I’m more prepared that most in the SHTF scenario.

I live in Ponchatoula. The first night of darkness after Katrina, my neighbors who fled the storm had their homes broken into. It took less than 24 hours for the roaches to show up.

Faster than anyone thinks.
Any brief disruption in the food supply chain and it's over for civilized behavior.
Most people don't have more than a couple days worth of food. Once the grocery is empty and it will empty fast.
That's it. It's over.

I think the prevailing standard is still five missed meals away from chaos.

Drug, fuel, and disinfectant in one bottle.
Plus an alcoholic staring down the DTs will trade his truck, guns etc for a few days of respite from the monster.

If the message that there was no end in sight, then society breaks down very quickly. 36 hours and SHTF. If a solution is in sight and communicated, then I think people will keep their heads for a month or so.

Ammo is key.
Then fuel and alcohol.
Can't be afraid to put heads on a stick at the end of the driveway.

Break out the long pork when times get lean.

I remember a lot of people without power for weeks.

So you're saying for most Americans, that's 8 or 9 hours, tops?
