It’s more likely that wages will increase, allowing more people to better afford their groceries. In addition, your taxes will likely decrease, which will have the same effect.

This seems to be the only way to offset it

We are at a new baseline

Wait hold on are we being serious right now? Even the damn Biden administration was able to level things off?? Inflation’s been back to a “normal” rate for 18 months now. This is not what Trump promised at all. I guess this is what I get for thinking he’s any different.

Prices are not returning to pre 2020 costs…. That would be stagflation

Goal here would be to slow down inflation and help salaries to grow faster then prince increases to gain back buying power.

Maybe the groceries was trump and rfks plan all along. If you care about your body the food hasn’t gone up that much, ground beef is a couple dollars more than 2018 and vegetables might be 50 cents more. Meanwhile chips and cereal are like 12 bucks a bag

It's because you don't understand the difference in rate of inflation and prices. Even though it's been explained in this thread at least 5 times.

Not saying you are wrong about either of those things, but can you tell me why you think either of those is likely?

Also, if wages increase, won't that further cause prices to rise under the cost-push theory of inflation? Same idea as raising the minimum wage?

You want deflation. You don’t want inflation or stagflation.

Fairly disappointed in the trump rhetoric as a candidate to what he’s saying now

He promised to have inflation and grocery prices under control but now says it’s going to be hard

He didn’t know that when he was running?

Which is roughly a 100% increase.

You do realize that that chart shows the percentage of increase by month, correct. When the line moves down it doesn't mean prices are moving down. It means they aren't increasing at the same pace. Maybe I'm missing what you're saying.

You’re missing what he’s saying. Some people are saying what Trump meant was that he would get the inflation rate back to “normal” (2ish percent). That poster is noting that that already happened, so it can’t be what Trump was promising.

Every rational person with a few brain cells to rub together knew Trump was utterly full of shite when he kept promising to lower prices, but there’s going to be a lot of sorely confused middle America over the next year.

He cant.

Its a byproduct of spending. It will take a recession which most likely will happen, but the drop in inflation will just be a side effect.

Trump will do everything he can to keep growth over 3%, just like he did last time (and only met it once.)

What you want is lower commodities so basic goods are priced reasonably (energy, groceries, clothes, shelter) along with economic growth where wages outpace inflation. This leads to consumption of other goods that drive the economy. You do not want a deflationary economy

This is the simplest and best explanation of how you “lower grocery prices” - increase buying power faster than inflation.

Within that return to 2% you might see some prices in some areas decrease.

quote:

when he kept promising to lower prices
Every politician does something like this. He suggested that if energy prices dropped it would allow for some prices to drop elsewhere.
