Black or white, old gray-haired church ladies can cook their arse off.

There’s so many culinary stereotypes I don’t get.

White people don’t use spice:

There are myriad “white” cultural groups in the US and all of them have their own cuisine, some using more peppery spices, some more savory and sweet. “White people” literally conquered the world in search of spices.

Black people love fried chicken and watermelon:

Who doesn’t? The south particularly loves fried chicken and watermelon. It’s hardly racially exclusive.

I mean I get the joke but I've never heard of Father's Day dinner as if it were some type of custom.

Do they realize that white people invented “soul food”?

It’s just normal poor southern food.

The only reason it was associated with blacks is because they brought it north with them during the great migration, to those Yankee cities.

They’ve been culturally appropriating fried chicken (scots-Irish) for years.

How do you feel about Thomas Sowell's idea that "authentic black culture" was actually appropriated from southern, white redneck culture, which was ultimately based off of "Cracker culture" from Northern Brits and Scotch-Irish folks?

quote:

Sowell gives a number of examples that he regards as supporting the lineage, e.g.

… and a style of religious oratory marked by strident rhetoric, unbridled emotions, and flamboyant imagery.

I haven't read that book, "Black Rednecks and White Liberals," but that hypothesis is pretty interesting when one looks at it in the whole "cultural appropriation outrage" lens.
