How is the St. George proposal different from Zachary and Central’s incorporation?

I heard a smear campaign on the radio this afternoon blasting the increased taxes in Zachary and Central. The result from said taxes are some of the top public school districts in the state.

I understand that the St. George area houses a lot more people than the towns of Zachary and Central. However, the increased taxes in both towns weren’t passed on to the people in BR, so how is this any different? I hope it passes just to see the glorious melts from Together BR and the rest of their goons.

Fun fact for the race baiting opposers: Zachary High has about a 55/45 black to white ratio according to a friend who works there. Guess they were racist too when they incorporated?

Zachary incorporated over a hundred years ago. We just got our school system in 2003. Not saying anything is different but I keep seeing people saying this when I think they mean how is this different than Zachary going independent.

It's not any different other than those cities were seen as a little more revenue neutral to BR. St George will be a swift kick in the nuts.

It’s only a problem because the black folks of the city are gonna lose a tax base.

They want to have the all black city and have the money fund all the black stuff but want whites to pay for it

The “racism” argument says more about the accuser than the accused these days.

It’s really the only answer for why Baton Rouge is so vocal in opposition, playing race card, and pushing the lie of Better Together and breaking away when SG is not inside BR city limits. With BR & SG There is no Together.

Isn’t city of BR nearly 55% black while the EBR parish has a slight white plurality (or at least in 2010)? Non-blacks opposed in BR know the city and leaders will be coming after them to make up difference.

IIRC, there is a process to allow areas to disincorporate from BR and join St George.

The city could give a shite about residential areas doing this because residential areas bring in squat tax-wise and are generally considered a drain on resources. If businesses start doing it, that is when shite will meet fan.

Does anyone know reasoning behind the land drawn up along the Amit river to connect to Central?

Also was drawing around apartment complexes a preemptive move against Together BR moving voters in them or did they really not have that much support with apartments a couple of years ago during that attempt to get on ballot. I figured it would at least shield them from political practices using temporary residents as if actual property owners want in it will be easier to do once SG incorporates (if SG wants properties I don’t know anything about any of them).

My understanding is that, last time around, TBR used rental properties as a way of invalidating a lot of signatures on the petitions.

Going after mainly homeowners is a good way to avoid that problem.

If TBR wants to call that racist, it is their own fricking fault these people weren’t part of the area to be incorporated.

Legally, the main differentiator is that Central and Zachary had to incorporate in order to comply with a long-standing Federal desegregation order. That requirement is no longer in effect and hasn't been since 2007.

Money money money money!

All the slush funds will have to be funded by the tax payers inside the City of BR. They do not want to pay for the fake jobs or people to sit on boards funneling money to themselves.

Wondering if all the $350k studies will stop.
Guessing the mayor will have a few community meetings and another study to find out.
