That was like 10 years ago

Also was drawing around apartment complexes a preemptive move against Together BR moving voters in them or did they really not have that much support with apartments a couple of years ago during that attempt to get on ballot

This one is easy.

When the map was proposed (and don't believe the rhetoric about some white guys sitting down and drawing this map. Its been being drawn for decades by lack of incorporation of this area by Baton Rouge) a shite ton of small areas and neighborhoods expressed their dismay for this "racist" idea. They proclaimed they wanted no part of it and showed their lack of interest by not signing the original petition. When SG v2.0 was announced and the areas that showed little interest were REMOVED from the map, those same people accused the organizers of gerrymandering to eliminate the black ares. I kid you not, there is literally NO way to satisfy some people.

To clarify, the Village of Zachary has been incorporated that long. the City of Zachary incorporated a much larger portion of the parish that was never part of the original village when they be came the City of Zachary a few years back.

Central was never a city until 2005. Prior to this is was unincorporated area of the parish and had no true standing as an area other than local consideration for the area. One of the major hurdles was actually identifying what was Central as there were many anecdotal opinions.

They've annexed rural areas around the city, which Baton Rouge does all the time. Regardless, Zachary has been incorporated since 1889 and their situation is nothing like St. George (which I support).

Does anyone know reasoning behind the land drawn up along the Amit river to connect to Central?

It's a strategic play that could allow future coordination with Central.

I heard a smear campaign on the radio this afternoon blasting the increased taxes in Zachary and Central. The result from said taxes are some of the top public school districts in the state.

I understand that the St. George area houses a lot more people than the towns of Zachary and Central. However, the increased taxes in both towns weren’t passed on to the people in BR, so how is this any different? I hope it passes just to see the glorious melts from Together BR and the rest of their goons.

Fun fact for the race baiting opposers: Zachary High has about a 55/45 black to white ratio according to a friend who works there. Guess they were racist too when they incorporated?

Zachary and Central aren't directly connected to Baton Rouge. If St. George passes we'll have arbitrary lines where you go through an intersection and you're in a new city, cross another intersection and you're back in BR. Why BR never incorporated more of city is beyond me. I live off Highland between Bluebonnet and Siegen and that's outside city limits. Granted, when I was a kid that area was 'the middle of nowhere': I remember Siegen being a gravel road. Since then though, the city limits should've been expanded.

No offense but that’s not how any of this works. Zacharys status as a village, town or city has nothing to do with its land size. It’s by population. Zachary has been incorporated for a long time. The school system broke off in 2003. Our school system district is larger than the city. That may be what you are referring to. The city of Zachary has been classified as a city since I have been alive I believe (30+ years)

just a side question in this. When school grades are handed down every year, why is Zacharys one high school graded and Central is thrown in with Baton Rouges schools?
