How is it possible that Louisiana has not legalized sports books?

Of all the states in America, I would think LA would be in the first five to jump on the sports book train. It already has a shite load of casinos. What would it possibly hurt to allow the casinos and/or race tracks to offer full sports books?

Because we are stupid and wanted to let MS do it first. It’s just how we roll

The legislature hasn't figured out a way to tax it.

While they’re making books illegal they should ban Harry Potter because it’s devil worship

Um they know how taxes on gambling works

LA legislature has not found out the best way to profit from it. They need to find a way to get paid.

I would assume the same way they tax the rest of the gambling income ...

Our legislators are equal parts stupid and crooked.

Have to appear to be a moral icon to the voters in some parts of this state.
Don't worry, when Mississippi is raking in the green from their sports books, our legislators will realize their mistake and slide this in under the radar. Or maybe promise everybody education funding again.

Against (6): Sen. Jack Donahue, R-Mandeville; Sen. Bret Allain, R-Franklin; Sen. Regina Barrow, D-Baton Rouge; Sen. Wesley Bishop, D-New Orleans; Sen. Jim Fannin, R-Jonesboro; Sen. Sharon Hewitt, R-Slidell.
Remember these names and vote their asses out. These people refused to let it out of committee.
Also, the state is suddenly running a budget surplus. Good luck getting people who were caught between the bible thumpers and budget deficits to vote for it the next time it comes up if that surplus is still there.

If Texas ever allows casinos or sports betting, it will be the end of it in LA
LA always reactionary to everything
MS anticipated this ruling and had all their ducks in a row
Lauberge in Baton Rouge and Lake Charles needs to put pressure on the lawmakers to do this, start lobbying if they haven't already

name something your State govt does right

No one has offered their representative enough pocket money to vote for it yet.

A lot of the gaming legislation got out of the house this year, but it all died in the Senate, because John Alario blocked the bills from moving.

Louisiana is going at this from a completely different angle. Solidify their position as #50 in all state by state ranking lists doing so by making the dumbest decisions possible and praying for a government bail out.
kind of like tanking in the NBA. We are the 76'ers of the 2010's.

When the legislature wouldn’t approve JBE’s plan to have one of Shreveport’s river boat casinos to Tangipahoa Parish adjacent to his family’s property, the governor ensured his cronies put the kibosh on initiatives to legalize sports gambling in the state.
