Sadly, when asked what needs to be done, many people respond with: “print more stimulus money.”

Aside from the pandemic, those checks are what got us here in the first place.

That is basically us. We are still saving at the same rate but our money for “entertainment” is lower. We were already not going out to eat much with two kids
for a long time now; now it is once a month maybe. I am still trying to convince my wife to cancel our Disney trip this summer.

This is why you live BELOW your means.

Inflation can make a lot of things ABOVE your means that were not before. So if you are living on fixed income, like a pension plan, you are particularly fricked when grocery prices double. Especially if you are too old to go back to work.

This is us as well. I did some quick math a few weeks ago before this massive fuel price hike up and figured that our household was spending an additional ~$400 per month than we were 12-18 months ago. After fuel jumped up that's now probably closer to $500-$600 extra a month. We're basically paying an additional car note and getting nothing to show for it.

Going from charging $35-$40 up to $65 and only losing 25% of customers? That’s less work for more money..

This is where a rudimentary education in finance/business would help. This exact scenario is scaled up when it comes to taxes. If you increase taxes on businesses, business will push that cost onto the customers. Customers see increase in cost, and then stop buying product. Lack of sales, leads to cutbacks. Cutbacks can mean reduced hours, layoffs, etc... All of which equate to a net loss in tax revenue for government. So not only does the increased taxes result in less tax revenue initially, but the trickle down effect of income tax, sales tax, etc... is also lost.

Conversely, if you lower taxes, then you create a larger tax base. Lower taxes equal lower prices. Lower prices = more sales. More sales = more revenue = more taxes.

The same applies to the lawn company. Lower prices = more customers. Higher operation costs result in higher prices resulting in fewer customers. Depending on their margin, the lawn service may very well be breaking even with a 20-30% raise in rates. Less work, means you can't afford as many workers, which means you can do as much work.

You must be my alter ego or twin. Two kids also and we're supposed to be going to Disney this summer. However, my wife doesn't want to go either but it was a planned trip with the in-laws in their RV.

At the beginning of Delta I went to the grocery store and saw an old couple with about 6 items. Mostly generic. They were obviously retired and on a tight budget apparently. Anyway, we were stuck behind a messican and a queen . Both had fully loaded carts. I give the illegals props though - they at least had generics in their buggy.

This country is so fricked.

Thanks FDR. Thanks LBJ.

I sometimes feel the same way (daughter will be two in a few months and we're expecting our second towards the end of the year). But I remind myself that our kids are going to be a different breed of tough. Sure, we're going to deal with some shitty things during our lives, but they'll be dragon slayers. Don't give up hope for the ones who have yet to start

The sad reality is that a good bit of his voters are so brainwashed that they honestly think the Dems had nothing to do with inflation and it’s Putin’s fault.

Yep, and Jimmy Carter wasn’t responsible for the last time this happened.

At least Carter was a well intentioned, decent man, unlike creepy Joe.

Ah. Yeah that’s a stupid decision T-Roy has to live with.

mean, I know the OT likes to joke, but there are millions of people living paycheck to paycheck, and these higher prices for virtually everything you need is creating real problems for many millions of people.

The domino effect is just starting too. It will start to kill the service industry and manufacturing. Restaurants, lawn services, construction, car dealers, etc. People will cut out these services and buying items they don’t need.

Instead of paying 50 dollars a week to get lawn cut they’ll go buy a 200 dollar push mower and cut it themselves.

They’ll buy groceries instead of eating out. They’ll keep the car they have since it’s paid for instead of buying a new one. Theyll get the washing machine fixed instead of replacing it.

Long term it will probably help cure a lot of bad habits by Americans but it will be painful for many initially as jobs are lost.

I think this is why the war drums are beating with Russia. I think those in power know we are fricked and like during the depression the only way out is a major war.

Anyone that thinks hyperinflation will change people's thinking and political persuasions is dead wrong. It will cause people to cry out for the government to save them, the government will gladly step in and it will hasten the end of our little experiment.

What the heck was that guy filling up that it cost them $115? I have a truck and it didn't cost me anywhere near that much. Must live in California.

Why would a lawn service almost double their lawn mowing prices because gas went up $.60-80? Will they lower the price when gas prices go down? I highly doubt it.
I can see raising your minimum for new customers but going from $30 to $65 is ridiculous.
Businesses are starting to price gauge and blaming it on the price of gas.

Yeah why not? Only the second economic collapse we’ve had to deal with in 13 years.
