It’s supposed to replace human consciousness. But it can’t sense anything.

Things that make you want another drink … Or puff.

Just like how AI does anything else, uses human input.

When it learns to control the electrical impulses in your brain that define taste and smell and also has a device to manipulate them, it’ll define those things for you.

AI, in it's current iteration, is an increasingly capable input/output machine. It will get even better over time as resources continue to be funneled into it at an unprecedentedly high rate.

But, that's what it should be viewed as - highly impressive input/output.

Smells and tastes are just chemical and electrical signals within your brain.

Have you ever taken a medication that has a side effect of bad tastes? I was on some migraine medicine once, and it made carbonated drinks taste flat.

Taste and smell are just molecules and receptors. Machines will analyze molecules and compare to other known molecular compounds.

How do you AI can not smell or taste?

Plus AI already knew you would ask this question.

How can we “input” into a computer what something like a strawberry tastes like? Describe it as “sweet?” OK, what does “sweet” taste like?

It's not.

It's only going to say what someone programs it to say.
