How important is living where you want to live to your happiness?

I sometimes struggle with the grass being greener on the other side, but whenever I visit other places (especially beautiful places with hills and mountains), I just think how much happier I would be if I lived there. I used to live in Birmingham, Alabama, for 10 years, and I took for granted the natural beauty there. Maybe it was just because I had an innocent childhood there, but I was happy there and am always happy when I go back, even now.
I am applying to medical schools and am looking forward to moving out of state. The only state school in Louisiana I want to go to is New Orleans. I do not think I would be happy in Shreveport, and a lot of it has to do with where it is and it not aligning to where I want
to be. I need to enjoy where I live and am ready to explore something new with more to offer.

NOLA is pretty dope for LSUHS or Tulane Med school students. Those kids seem to have a good time.

I'm a generally happy guy, but became legitimately depressed when I lived in Monroe. I'm sure it's different for everyone, but I think it's a huge factor in happiness.

It think, just uniformed thoughts here, that it is important. However, almost anywhere you go, no matter how much you may love it for that week or two of blissful vacation, may get old and grinding after a certain amount of time and routine passes.
Although Greater N.O. La. is home, and where I belong, I would like to try it out at some point, for longer than a week. Almost anyplace is better for a week or so. It's the time after, when you start to do the mundane daily tasks of living and not vacationing that tell the tale.

You know University of Houston has free tuition for the first class. Also Baylor is cheaper than LSU if you pay out of state first year and in state the last 3 years. Med school is where you can get in but residency go to a place you like and a program where most people seem happy

I wouldnt pass up medical school just b cause you don’t want to live in Shreveport.
If that’s where you get accepted, suck it up and go. Then do your residency somewhere cool.

Sorry, but I wasn't aware until I went there last year. Disgusting. I've been to villages in Africa that didn't stink like that city does. Hell, I've cleaned out my own septic tank before and that wasn't as smelly as NO.

I'm in the New Orleans area, with a wife and two young kids. If my wife would agree to it, I'd move in a heartbeat. I need some space to roam around. I could also do without year-round humidity.

I'm retired and want to downsize and move to a more rural environment and away from the BS of inner city life. Part of it is for a more peaceful lifestyle, a nicer sized piece of property and another part is for the less cost of daily living expenses.
I know for certain my auto insurance will be much cheaper, property taxes far cheaper, homeowner's insurance likely cheaper since I'd be living in a smaller home even though rural homeowner prices are usually a bit higher due mainly to fire protection being better in a large city.
I live in a neighborhood in N.O. that sees a lot of foot and vehicular traffic. Neighbors houses so close you can almost touch them, and it seems every house except mine has a fricking dog----or two, some of whom like to bark for no other reason other than they can.
I'm just biding my time for the wife to retire and we're out of here.

You can transfer after the first year. Every class has a few fail out and would love to generate the revenue.
