It's huge. I moved to the edge of the Hill Country and my only regret is I didn't do it 10 years ago. I could never live in a flat humid swamp again.

I do not think I would be happy in Shreveport, and a lot of it has to do with where it is and it not aligning to where I want

Suck it up buttercup. You want to be an OT baller then pain is the game. But seriously man up and go where you get accepted and then take solid residency based on your picks.

I think it matters more the older you get, if you are active. I can't imagine living in a neighborhood / tight quarters with a bunch of neighbors up close any more. Was fine when kids were younger but now even the kids love the space and freedom we have, the woods, trails, wildlife, etc. But, we are close enough to a city for jobs, school and egads shopping.
This is a fact. Love my space in the sticks.

It is very important to me.
With my career and experience I could get a job in any major city in the U.S. I have also worked for 2 very large firms with offices in every major city in the U.S. I asked for a transfer from one of them to south Florida.
To me, living where I want to is #1 above all else. Family, friends, career, its above all of those. I can and have made friends everywhere I've lived. I fly home and visit my family on holidays. I work so I can live wherever I want.
Personally I've pretty much settled in south Florida. I've decided it's where I like best.

Hugely important. Though, I have found that incredibly stupid / shitty bosses can make the best locations miserable. So, there's definitely a balancing there.
