Fines?
Jail?

People jumping on a site and buying up all the tickets 20 minutes after they go on sale are ridiculous.

Don't be a dope; wait until the day of and buy tickets off of people that no longer want to go.

The Taylor Swift tour is over, you can relax.

Building bots to infiltrate a ticket site before the general public can purchase doesn’t seem like a “free market”

True “free market” works. Buts it like “true socialism” works. Neither exists

Both are rigged for the ruling party

Building bots to buy the tickets and resell them is pretty much pure entrepreneurial arbitrage.

The market works by signals. Those signals are prices. Entrepreneurs work by acting on market signals to facilitate a cleared market (ie quantity demanded equals quantity supplied). For tickets, they see the prices are too low—the quantity demanded will exceed the quantity supplied. A market clearing price would be higher, so they buy the tickets and resell them at a market clearing price where QS=QD. Their reward (profit) is the spread.

They are a core function of the market ensuring resources/services are allocated to individuals that most want something get it - they should certainly not be demonized.

The argument opposed to scalpers is that the person willing to play X + Y for something shouldn't be allowed to do that so the people that are only willing to pay X for that same thing can benefit.

Why not BOTH?

Biggest scalpers in college sports are the school's donor funds and the NCAA. Most honest thing they could do would be required to add the donation to the actual face value on the tickets so the end buyer had a better cost on the real base value of the ticket.

They are the puppets, not the puppet master where it comes to college sports.
