That's why even Germans today make speaking English a priority. They all appreciate German, but they freely admit that English is the language of business.
The current French though are quite different. They are so butthurt that French isn't an international language anymore.

They’re sooooo butthurt. Ive been told by a French person that France played the geopolitical chess game and lost to English. Very dramatic and butthurt bunch the French. All they have left is cultural relevancy and luxury goods so they’re gripping that fiercely

Too true. I’m the youngest of my large family. Grew up in the house my mama grew up in. Older siblings grew into their early teens with our grandmother speaking to them and my mother only in Cajun french. They can all converse in the language. Parkinson’s took her when I was three. I know phrases and curse words but can’t hold a conversation . My old uncles used to tell memo was raised “americain’ cause my dad was a Baptist from North Louisiana. (Whole ‘nuther story) It is one of my great regrets that the language will soon be gone. Daughter took the Cajun French class at LSU. Can’t teach it that way. Need to be raised in it .

Daughter did the same with my mom. It’s still on YouTube .

What? Growing up in New Orleans we were required to take French class until like 5th grade.
When was this because, it was beaten out of kids long before schools taught it

the cause of the decline in French use mandated by some beauracrate is simply not true. Witnessed first hand. It was the television..............

I've heard stories about when they started requiring kids to speak English. I remember one of my friend's mom telling us she used to go to school and get in trouble for speaking French, then go home and get in trouble for speaking English.

This thread is going to full of people that bemoan people not assimilating to American culture and then cry about the eradication of french speaking enclaves on Louisiana.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. We speak GODS ENGLISH here.

I was raised and born in FL. In college, I worked on La oil rigs during summer (early 70's) to pay for tuition (also tugs & supply boats). All they spoke was French. I felt like I was in a foreign country. The Cajuns were very friendly and I liked them all.
The Cajuns made a huge impact during WW2 because they could speak with the French people and learn where food/wine/supplies could be found and communicate with the the French Revolutionaries, and learn where Germans were hiding. The Cajun soldiers gave us a huge advantage during WW2.
Read the Book: 'Frenchie' to appreciate the Cajun contributions to WW2.

French is useless as a language

To all of the people saying “I never met anyone beaten for speaking French in school”, no shite. They’re all dead. That happened in the 1930’s/ 40’s.
Add me to the list of people whose grandparents spoke it fluently and I don’t. But I did pick up some choice phrases playing bourré with my elders.

Your abject ignorance is on full display
No one gave a shite about what the isolated Cajuns exiled in mosquito-infested swamps were doing until they discovered all the Oil here.
