I'm afraid i'll screw it up if I clean it. I gonna leave it be. I'll buy a new one soon. I just hate change.

I mean, if you manage to break it (which you won't), you could then just go buy a new one

Seriously, use compressed air and make sure it's off and unplugged before you get started. Pretty much foolproof from there. It's just a surface level clean. I'm not suggesting you pull out a bottle of IPA and start removing components

Nah, that's why I'm suggesting compressed air. Hard to frick anything up with that, even as a neophyte. Now, see those attachments Silver is suggesting? That's how shite gets broken

Oh, I know. I'm talking about from a luck/coincidence standpoint. That'd be my luck....

Haha fair. Though it's a 14 year old computer. I'd be jumping at an excuse to replace the damned thing

I've been using an eyeshadow makeup brush to clean between the keys a few times in 15 years but that's it.

And I superglued the "backspace" key back on when it fell off.

I'll get some air tomorrow and give it a try.

I can not stress this enough: Unplug it and take it somewhere outside of your house that you don't mind getting covered with dust. And if you have any leftover covid facemasks, maybe throw one of those on as well. It's likely to be a hell of a lot of dust

Probably would if you popped a 1gig nic in it. Probably has a 100mb nic

That's impressive. Most sites can't even feed you the data that fast.

Jesus Christ, it’s astounding how little you understand the difference between internet speed and computer performance. Please, I beg you, stop discussing this.

We do 500 Mbps from AT&T. I just don't need anything more than that. I think the max plan we have available is 2 Gbps.
Most web sites can't feed you the data that fast. That is plenty.

What am saying is, most web sites don't have an outgoing pipe that will send the data any faster.

You can get GIG25, but it isn't going to download any faster than a server can send it.

To revisit this, I truly do get it. I replaced the wifi card in my wife's laptop a few months ago and I braced for anything, literally anything, to start acting up with her laptop so I would have the joy of explaining that, no, my changing the wifi card did not cause XYZ issue.

And then for her to still not believe me

Fortunately, so far so good

You are simply talking about speed but forgetting about bandwidth. WTF do you think happens to your speeds when you are streaming to a few TVs, have your smart home linked to it, security cameras, phones, etc

Did you just get EPB gig service? This thread seems very try hard, we’ve had this shite since 2010.

I understand that part, but you can't download any faster than the incoming data is coming through the pipe.

My ISP offers speeds (for a premium) that you can't get a store bought PC that can keep up.

I feel like a 16yr old talking on IRC arguing about who has the fastest internet again.

Thanks for taking me back.

Please explain what you mean by this. I’m curious to hear. What do you think the “website” “pipe” and “server” are?

You aren’t completely wrong or clueless, there’s some truth to your statements but there are literally dozens of factors you’re omitting.

No, as I said earlier in this thread. I've had the 300 forever.

This machine won't handle that speed, much less the gig.

You seem to be trying very hard to run your dicksucker without reading the thread.

Your computer is receiving data. It can't recxeive it any faster than the server sends it.

Let me guess, you're such a whiz you can make the sending server speed up to your specified speed.

Geez...

I have 400 Mbps speed but my old house had 1G. There is a noticeable difference if I am downloading large files.

IIRC Amazon web services can send data at 12GB/s

Yet you told someone earlier that their speed of 500Mpbs was faster than what most sites can send data
