How does Costco hold on to employees for so long?

Every time I go to Costco I notice their badges and most employees have been there for over 5 years and I constantly see 10+ year employees. Is their pay and benefits really that good?

Costco is just a massive multi-level marketing scheme. You get people "under you" by getting them jobs there.

depends on what you compare their pay to
it is solid for corporate retail compared to their competition.
a department manager can make around 50-60K
and their store manager pay is I think 90-120K
not a bad gig as long as you dont mind working most holidays and weekends.
I worked there in HS and made decent money compared to people at burger shops and bussing.

I have encountered one incompetent employee at Costco.
He's the older guy who used to work the gas pumps and is now a front supervisor (red vest).
He's confused and doesn't seem to know where he is half the time.
For anyone who is around the BR location, there is a black girl at that location with bigger hair who has a booty so perfect it would make a klansman blush.
I saw it yesterday and the black guy behind me both caught each other looking and had a laugh. The thing defies the laws of physics and perkiness.

how to treat them and whether you stand behind your employees when they have done nothing wrong is what makes the difference in how long they work for you

Yeah I know a dude who started working right out of HS, been there 10 years now. He's a manager now and doing well for himself. I know he has really good benefits too.
For somebody who's unskilled, Costco would be a great company to work for if you're willing to put in your time and work your way up the ladder. Same with chick fil la

It’s amazing how obvious it looks to us, yet companies like Burger King just can’t understand the value in hiring and paying good employees.

Idk. Though it’s better than most food service sort of sucks.

Snap a pic next time if you wouldn’t mind

I work at a department of the State. In the last week it was declared that we needed to cut down on the amount of ups we'd give to incoming peeps in terms of salary.
This means that if they can get away with paying you poverty wages, they'll do it. Somehow this austerity approach doesn't apply to people who have been there 10+ years and are sassy.
[Edit]: People stick at Costco because they treat their employees well.

I have a family member that has worked there for 20+ years. He’s a store GM and makes more money than most people I know. Apparently it’s a great place to work.
He started working there his freshman year in college and by the time he graduated with a teaching degree, he was already making more at Costco than he would have anywhere as a teacher so he just never left.

Bc Costco views their employees a resource to be developed and not a disposable commodity to be used.
I know it's easy (and correct) to shite on Wal-Mart, but the approach of the companies couldn't be more different. Lots of good articles out there about it.

I retired from the Federal Judiciary in 2015. My generation did well but the younger workers have gotten screwed with basically no pay increases other than COLAs.
I’m so glad I got the hell out of that place. I’ve since started a career with Florida State Government using the exact same skill set and a I love it. I’ve already been promoted once.
Double dipping is glorious. I highly recommend it.

Nutshell. Corporate views its work staff as assets and not employees.

A 43-page non-compete Clause. It's basically paid, indentured servitude.

This sums up what's wrong with America and it's debt. It used to be govt employees made less than private sector so the pensions were a way to lessen the gap.
Now, govt workers make more, and still get pensions. Not sustainable.

No they don't. This is just some reactionary kneejerk nonsense.
In my line of work in BR, I get $65k a year. If I moved to Dallas, Houston, or NO and worked in the private sector I'd add $40-60k to that.
