This sums up what's wrong with America and it's debt. It used to be govt employees made less than private sector so the pensions were a way to lessen the gap.
Now, govt workers make more, and still get pensions. Not sustainable
Can't read eh?
Fun anecdote.. Nashville is one of the most expensive places in the south to live and just two yeare ago were hiring recent STEM graduates at 28k a year with meh benefits

You’re incorrect but, enjoy your misery.
I was in a Hazardous Duty career and earned every bit of what I got. I just happened to have a few good years left in the tank so I decided to apply to Florida. I was hired on the spot because as brought them a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience.
There are no comparable private sector jobs for my particular skill set.

Is their pay and benefits really that good?

Costco workers make an average of roughly $22.50 per hour, with employees who have been at the retailer for years making into the mid-$40 to $50 range
Pretty good pay to run a cash register or count people walking through a door.

not a bad gig as long as you dont mind working most holidays and weekends.
What do you consider major holidays because my local Costco is closed New Year's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day

Somewhat related I worked at Lowes in college and the department managers acted like they were Fortune 500 CEO’s. They loved what little power the held and got off on giving orders to kids.

I knew a guy that went to Gainesville to go to juco after hs and hang out with the guys at UF, guy was a department manager at Lowe’s before everyone graduated making more than most of his friends when they graduated.
Sure he’ll top outist likely, but if you pick a good retailer and stick it out you can do pretty well. Many of them require you to move around a lot, but some don’t.

I watched a tv special on Costco once and it’s easy to see how based on the company modal and commitment to excellence... I think the minimum wage there is 20$ per hour

Federal government employees get a retirement plan but that was significantly reduced for anyone who started working for the feds after 1986. Most federal employees are on something called FERS and no one is getting rich on it. Essentially they get 1% of their salary for each year they work. In other words there is no such thing for the average federal government employee to work 20 years and retire with a good pension. Most feds rely on their 401k(TSP) with they contribute to with a small match like many private sector jobs. Sure the FERS portion may be more than many private sector jobs, but it somewhat makes up for the pay.

No. Sure there are some clerical jobs that may pay better than a private sector equivalent, but MANY, MANY government jobs pay less than the private sector (Management, legal, engineers, IT, etc).

Burger King is selling ten nuggets for a buck. Do you think they could do that paying decent salaries?

Anyone report back? That arse deserves its own thread.

My cousin makes $24 an hour at Costco and he didn't go to college. Gets full benefits and all. Seems pretty legit if you don't have a trade

What does that have to do with the Holy trail of booty

Post office gets 60% of the top three salaries at 25 years, 65% at 30 and 70% at 35.
You can make $100k in maintenance with OT, your top three years would get you $60,000 a year for life after 25 years. You get on at 20-21 you are done with working at 45-50 and making decent money in pension with the ability to work elsewhere.

It’s amazing how obvious it looks to us, yet companies like Burger King just can’t understand the value in hiring and paying good employee
Lol, Costco isn't open 24 hours and you aren't working in a kitchen while it's hot as frick. In fact, lots of workers just kind of walk around and don't do shite. It took me forever to actually get one of those frickers to get something down from the top shelf.
