Seriously, There are numerous people (Black AND white) that are in prison because cops either fabricate evidence, or give testimony that is just not accurate.

I understand the idea of wanting to move UP the promotion ladder based on convictions, but how do you live with that?

Well they probably see a lot of guilty people walk due to lack of evidence. And they think this guy's guilty and so they're doing a service putting him away. People can justify all kinds of things to sleep at night.

Or, they're just shite people

How does a priest have to live knowing the confession is real?

Spot on. Cop "knows" person committed the crime, cop also knows the evidence besides a confession is potentially inadequate, shores the case up with said confession. Ends justify the means.

Problem is, cop doesn't "know" because to "know" is supposed to result only from presence of necessary legally obtained evidence.

Because to be in that profession you either legitimately want to make a difference and believe in protecting the weak..or, you really enjoy having power over others.

How do you know when a police officer is lying??? When he begins his sentence with, "based on my experience and training".- Christopher Dorner

I think they either view “us” as being below “them” and not worthy of normal considerations, or they think they the person is guilty of something and therefore justice is served by putting said person in prison regardless of what lies put them there.

There’s several shows on Netflix about false confessions and the like ... amazing just how easily the system can screw over an innocent person.

Don’t get me wrong, our system is the best in the world and uncovering the truth, but it depends on everyone (save the criminal of course) being honest.

The FBI is currently investigating Houston drug squad cops who lied to get search warrants and planted drugs and possibly weapons. Two of the people they tried to set up were murdered during a no-knock raid. Some fricked up stuff happens in the real world.

Same way they live with being in one of the most hated professions in the world. When is the last time you were happy to see a cop? A normal person may have two or three times in their life where they were glad to be in the presence of a cop, the rest, and usually there are many many other times where they ruin your day/drive just by being there.

They are just sh!tty people in general.

I know someone well from a notorious LEO-related cover up that happened a long time ago.

Strange days indeed.

Until the Reid Technique is outlawed, one should look at every alleged confession with suspicion.

There are dirty people in every profession. Dirty cops just do more damage.

And have vastly more protection after doing said damage.
