there's a difference between perspiration and just being straight up nasty.

Tell him he smells and needs to take care of that before coming into the trailer. Otherwise, fart profusely when he is in there

Since you don't want to have a conversation with him about it and want to be passive aggressive; keep a bottle of your favorite cologne in your desk. When you know he's coming, put a dab on your fingers then wipe under your nostrils.

There is a guy in my gym that seems to smell of mildewed clothing. I think he may just slap on a t-shirt previously worn and damp from his gym bag. I like him so I just move to another area to exercise.
I find it easy to tell if I have BO and am conscious about it.
It’s possible the guy you posted about cannot smell well at all. My FIL and 2 of my sons say they cannot smell odors unless it is a strong odor!

Penelope figured it out forty years ago:

Now the more he'd scratch, the more he'd sweat
And I'm here to say he was-a-chokin' me to death
So we loaded up, I just couldn't go on
And I coughed and I gagged, all the way home
When I dropped him off, I was next to dine
My nose was-a-runnin, and my eyes were-a-cryin'
The smell scorched the hair right out of my nose
When I got home I had to burn all my clothes

Please look up definition of audacity.

Quit being awkward and nut up and tell them they stink. If you stank that bad, wouldn't you want someone to tell you?

he probably doesn't wash his clothes

I work in IT and had an Indian employee who stunk. We tried dropping hints but it didn’t work. We finally had to say something. He got defensive and didn’t feel the need to change anything. I ultimately had to hand him a copy of HR’s employee handbook and pointed out the section about hygiene. He finally did something about it

I've read this entire thread and have given this considerable thought, I've come to the conclusion that this is the only logical solution

When he comes in the construction trailer, I have to Febreze the place when he leaves. He smells that bad.
It depends on the time of the day. If he stinks early in the morning, it's his problem. If he stinks at the end of day or afternoon, I could understand.

When the guy walks in just loudly say “what the frick is that smell?”
Followed up with
“One of y’all has to get a shower and clean out that arse”
Works everytime

Breathe through my mouth shut down my nose and mentally pretend that's normal until the interaction is over, just gotta keep mellow with a focus on getting out of there.

Tell him one on one that he needs to address his hygiene. Ask if he needs help. Maybe his washer is broken, can’t afford extra clothes or living in his truck.
Careful what you wish for. I told an Indian, dots not feathers, contractor that her hygiene was a distraction to everyone in the office. The next day she came in coated in cheap perfume to cover up the BO.

I worked with someone who would tell us they just got out of the shower before work and they still smelled like mildewed piss. I did not have the heart to say anything.
Recently met someone on vacation. We all hung out, but the dudes breath stunk so bad from rotten teeth, you could hardly stand it.
