How do you guys handle family members who always want to borrow money?

I have a younger sister that is pretty close to worthless. She married for shite and now this guy has been on disability for 5 years now. It's never a lot of money at once but it's always 50$ here, 20$ there, $100 today and I will pay you back next week but rarely follows through. I wouldn't mind loaning her the money if she would just pay the shite back but I doubt I see 60% of what she borrows back. She does have a job and makes around 35k a year. Im no OT baller but they have 2 kids and she is my little sister so it's hard for me to say no.

I stop loaning my Mother and Step-Dad money a few months ago. My little sisters I don't mind, because they are my little sisters and both still in school with one finishing her masters.
$20 here and $100 there adds up, and if someone needs to borrow $20 bucks as an adult then they will probably never be enough ahead to ever pay you that $20 bucks back.

Tell her if the kids need something, you'll help. Then buy whatever that is.

Stop giving her money but if you still want to help do things for the kids.
Like taking them to the movies or something.

If you "loan" money to family and friends just assume you are not getting it back.
If it's a big deal to you if they don't pay you back then don't loan the money because it will be a wedge in the relationship.

I helped my BIL out by buying him a car last year after he had the one he had bought repossessed by a buy here pay here lot. He had just started a new job, and I didn't want him to lose it.
I let him pick out the car he wanted so that he would be happy with the decision and he wanted one that was $5750. We let him borrow the money with the understanding that he would pay me back when he got his tax refund.
That was a year and 2 months ago. I've talked to him numerous times about it and he assures me he is going to at least start paying me some money each month, but he hasn't yet.

Not real crazy about the practice, but I would probably make them put up some type of equivalent collateral.
My grandfather was reckless as hell. You know you have to have no pride left when you come to your own son for a loan. My dad, being my dad, and knowing his dad, gave him the loan after he put up ten acres of land on a promissory note as collateral. Loan was never repaid and my dad wound up with an extra ten pretty decent acres.

If you are going to give it, give it without the expectation of reimbursement.
If you expect reimbursement don't give it.

My little brother who is over 30 used to hit me up for $20 here $50 there all the time. He'd guilt me and I'd feel bad, under the guise he was borrowing it and would pay me back.
I started keeping a list of when and how much and would borrow and show it to him everytime he asked for money. He eventually stopped asking all together.

It sounds like she has a job making almost $17 an hour. It is her husband that is worthless, not her.
Let her know that you will not lend her money anymore but that you will give her money. The only stipulation is that for each $20 you give her, you get to punch her hubby in the balls one time.
What is his disability? How much does it pay per month? Is he faking? If it is real you can delete the balls-punch.
She is going to leave him when the kids are grown so you should maintain a relationship with her. She is your sister.
