For the last two years I've been financially supporting my BIL three children plus my own three children. I really can't see an end to this.

I don't have that problem, tho I did know a few mooches

I learned quickly to not carry a bunch of cash...folks get big ideas when they see a wad of ones

I used to say, if they were trying again, I add it up for them and say, don't ask again til you pay back this and the last time...never had a problem after that.

one of my co-workers asked me the same question, a buddy of his needed some to cover the rent, I asked him, well what is this genius gonna do for rent next month, and the month after ? he said he got it... then I sad, I wouldn't loan him anything, but I can give him a few, and I mean a few dollars 5 maybe ten

best to nip it in the bud....you're gonna have to be the bad guy now...

they'll get over it...
==========================
you wanna see their eyes get big, ask them for their ssn, tell them you're gonna add them as a dependent...

It's easy for borrowers to forget what they've "borrowed" in the past, particularly if there's no pressure to repay the debt. 20 bucks isn't going to solve a problem. Those amounts just indicate the requests will never end. Keep a record of dates and amounts as someone suggested and, at some point, you need to show it to her.

Also, if I'm going to get hit up repeatedly, I need to know what the money is for and I need to know that the person is actually managing the money they have in the best way possible. I will not enable poor money managers. I will also buy whatever is needed with the money if I feel the need is legit.

I watched someone in my family fall for sob stories from an ex and give her money all the time. Pitiful. She was not spending it on rent or her car or any other legit thing. I'm not going to be taken advantage of that way.

Let her know that you will not lend her money anymore but that you will give her money. The only stipulation is that for each $20 you give her, you get to punch her hubby in the balls one time. What is his disability? How much does it pay per month? Is he faking? If it is real you can delete the balls-punch.

Yea he is a fake. I think he only gets like $1300 a month disability. I got about $200 worth out of his arse last year then at $20 a punch. I posted about it in a fist fight thread last year

This is actually a good idea...

Also, the smaller the amount, the less likely that you'll ever see it paid back to you.

OP's talking about $20 here, $50 there. He'll never see any of that again.

Just say no. We finally cut off 2 relatives. One does work for us now to earn it, the other at first went after us on Facebook, which we ignored. Now she very nicely asks to come over to eat once a week, which we oblige.

Just like this. Let's role play. Ask me to borrow money for gas and diapers and tell me you're going to,pay me back next week.

Mine know better than to ask. Now, if they were in trouble through job loss or health issues, they wouldn't have to ask, I wouldn't bat an eye to help. However; if they can't manage their money or too lazy to work then I won't be their ATM.

I lent money to a family member in need. Never been paid back. His wife posts on Facebook about her new ring, their Disney trip, the cruise, and how they deserve the vacation to Orange Beach. I got deleted from being their Facebook friend because I deserve to be paid back for the money that I loaned them.

I don't lend money to anyone anymore.
