Oh, there you go-------------------- dispensing common sense again.

My wife has ALWAYS been a phone person and before cellphones she'd be on the phone at night talking to local friends and then the occasional call long distance to relatives out of town/state when the rates went down for the day after 7 p.m.

Since the advent of "Smart Phones", she not only calls, but texts, keep up with things on social media------mainly Facebook and if she's not talking, she's scrolling or texting. It's absolutely insane. She even has that damn phone next to her in bed at night, you know-----just in case there's an emergency??????

It's a fricking sickness.

That or a documentary is my sleep routine.

I put mine down on the bedside table and cue up whatever show I’m watching. Helps if it’s a good show.

At the same time each night I take 20 Grams of Melatonin 30 Minutes before I want to go to sleep. I watch an old sitcom episode (Currently Cheers) on my phone. Everyone once in a while I will pass out during the show but most often I will get to the end and roll over and instantly fall asleep. Do the same routine each night and give yourself something else to do besides Scroll.

I put an audiobook on and set a 30 minute timer. I usually just back the book up 30 minutes the next time i listen to it.

Reread the question… he asked nothing about preventing a habit from forming.

Brick your phone. Best investment for your own personal time

LINK

It’s a physical device you have to scan to unlock (same as Apple Pay, you just touch it)

You decide which apps to allow on your phone when in different “bricked” modes…so mine would just be calls, texts, Apple wallet, camera etc.

You can also set a mode that blocks specific apps, by blocking Safari and Chrome, all social media apps, etc. your app becomes a tool again

The bed is for 2 things.

Those are the only 2 things I do in bed ever.

Makes it much easier to fall asleep.

I had a sleep doctor tell me this once. Works great.

Problem is, I scroll on the couch and delay going to bed. Just kicked the can down the road

I read for an hour with no phone. Then I listen to the “Missing” true crime
podcasts with Tim & Lance. Fifteen minutes and I’m usually out.

I like this idea. Put the phone away and read a minimal of 10 pages every night. That would be a lot of books for one year.

Our master suite is made up of two rooms with tons of space. The TV is 65” and pretty far from the bed.
