quote:In my late 40s and I agree. If it's something I'm into like streaming movies, I'll use the services. If it's something I'm not into, like vomiting my daily life onto a webpage for my "friends" to read, I won't.
I am in my early 30s and becoming that guy. Simple reason: DGAF
When I was working out regularly during the 1990s I used to wonder how classic rock stations forced on me in the gym, playing the same old bullshite Aerosmith and Tom Petty songs could survive. Now, I know. I only listen to a few bands that were formed this century. I'm actually busier discovering music from before I was a teen.

So you are asking why a certain demographic has no interest in Apps or websites? I’m far from that demographic but my question to you is why are you obsessed with being plugged in? Maybe they actually appreciate life, but whatever, you keep judging..

Not so much that as it is, they’ve seen and done things, without the “benefit “of technology that most might never have to deal with, with heavier consequences, and could do it again, and could give a shite about you punks and your “technology.”

I imagine it's kind of like the fact that idk what apps and games preteens are using.

why is it so difficult for you to understand that modern technologies that are of such importance to you don’t matter to others? You probably have no working knowledge or appreciation for rotary phones, 8 track tapes, the Sears catalog, or transistor radios. But old people do cause they grew up with them. You didn’t. Why would you think old people would care about any of the shite you listed? They don’t need it. They never had it, and it doesn’t matter to them.

When confronted with a new way of doing things, most people (at any age) don't really use it well. They try to use it to do what they always did.
For example, I knew someone who had been using chalkboards and whiteboards most of his professional life. Then along came Visio and Powerpoint. He simply kept doing what he always had done before, just with Visio and Powerpoint.
If he realized he'd made a mistake positioning something on a flowchart, did he simply select the object and drag it to the better location? Of course not, that would be a new way of doing things. No, he deleted the original object and created a new one in the desired location. "Drag and drop" didn't exist in the whiteboard world, so he didn't use it.
To reiterate - when a new technology comes up people don't try to use it innovatively. They try to use it the same way they always did before. And so over the years they become uncompetitive.
This isn't an "old people" thing, it's just that given enough decades it becomes really obvious.

Did you happen to see OUR US Congressman interview Mark Zuckerberg? They didn’t know how the internet worked, and we expect these crooks to run our country???? Jokes on us!!!
Still probably better than Silicon Valley tech CEOs running the country. Unless you are a Commie pinko. Oddly enough it would really bad for their companies

At a certain point in life you stop giving a shite about stuff that's isn't an immediate part of your life or affect you on a daily basis.

I grew up in metro BR with limited cab service so we just went out and drove home drunk. Now me and the wife can go to dinner and have 2 bottles of wine and it costs me $25-30 round trip with no DUI risk or waiting on a cab.

A lot of older people I know are on the internet all the time. My uncle is in his 80s and he uses Facebook more than teens do. He's always posting memes, videos, whatever.
Whenever I'm a senior citizen, I'm going to make an effort to not be the old guy that doesn't know about technology of the future and how amazing it is.

Many tend to get in routines that make them feel stable. They watch the same programs, and rarely keep up with the latest in pop culture, technology, fads, etc.

Because they choose to.

shite. I’m in my early 30’s and tried to figure out how to use Kodi and gave up after 20 minutes
I’ll just pay for Netflix or Hulu if needed.

What kind of memes does a 80 year old post?

but to have never even heard of them or know what they do is wild.
My grandpa is 92
They tell the news too fast & the words across the bottom of the screen are too little to read
Over the holidays he would tell me “that brown box company is doing big business”
He got the just of the news story but doesn’t grasp what Amazon is
He’s pretty damn sharp for 92 but at his age he has no need for streaming or ordering stuff online
