Probably because as youngsters they weren’t shut in, mesmerized by shiny things. They actually could venture outside their home on their own past their front yards, riding bikes, etc. Many had little odd jobs they did around the neighborhood for pocket change. Their parents didn’t buy them unecessary crap just because the kid wanted it.
Then they may go inside and, EGAD, read books and interact verbally with their families. It’s amazing, they could pen letters and write in cursive being so out of touch.

People 75+ years old did not grow up in the digital age. Pretty easy to grasp.

At that age, most people are set in their ways. They don't need Amazon because they don't need a lot of stuff and the stuff they do need they can go into town (or have someone go for them) and get it themselves. Uber, why would they pay someone to drive them places when they can ask their children or grandchildren? Netflix, they most likely have cable and only need their favorite news channel and TCM.

I think a lot of them know these things exist, they are just too stubborn and tired to learn new things.

It's hard to go anywhere and not see young people with a phone in front of their face.

They know a lot of actually important things that young people have no conception of.
Also are generally wise, while young people have no clue what that word even means.

When I'm 75+ I sure as hell hope I don't give a flying frick about the silly shite "young people" seem to think is important.

By then, you know what actually matters in life. It sure as hell aint Amazon, uber, or Netflix.

What a bunch of shallow, vapid crap

I'd submit that it's the younger generation that's disconnected with reality.

Even I have to leave my camera behind when hiking occasionally because it changes how I enjoy that time. Maybe there's value in enjoying the moment without having to spend that time trying to share it with everyone else.

Excuse me??? WE invented it.

Related incident: I was coming across the 3 mile bridge 'tween Pensacola and the beach and it started raining. I had a Blue Oyster Cult cd going and there was a young guy walking across the bridge. I stopped and gave him a ride due to the rain. He got in, thanked me and said "WOW whats an old dude like you doin jammin to this"??? My reply: My generation created IT and most of what's like it, while yours plays on your computers copying it". We stopped at the "Sand Shaker" on the beach and grabbed a couple beers. Good kid. :-)))

75+ is pretty damn old. If they werent into Netflix and Amazon 10 years ago, why start now? They really dont have that mich time left unless they are blessed with really good genes.

Now people in their 40s and 50s I can understand. In particular those who work or otherwise "need" to grasp nee technology to remain effective in their jobs.

Also, at 75 you couldve had multiple health issues or know plenty of friends or fanily who have. Youve also likely experienced a good bit of personal loss by then as well.

shite puts things in perspective.

I figure that for some of them, daily life is a painful struggle. That consumes their time and desire to learn.

Oder people are learning every day, they just don't waste their time with stupid crap that know one will remember in a year. Most of my friends 70+ spend their time reading, and physically doing things, not staring at a screen.

A person 75 today probably retired around 2008, they started working in the early to mid 1970s, if they worked in any type of business office setting they used all of the digital technology that lead to what we have today. I got my first PC in 1982, cell phone around 1990, and was on the internet in 1994. I am 63 and people a lot older than me were dong the same thing.

Did you ever think that they have lived all that time without all that really unnecessary technology that they don't care or need it. Before cell phones, PC's, and computers people actually knew how to carry on face to face conversations and enjoy family time.
