Had info on Hillary?
Nah, before her time. Gun shot wound to the head. I wasn't going to put that on the first page.

How does one ask for permission to wed a girl you've been balls deep in? I feel like the permission window has passed.

We flew back and I took both her parents out to dinner one night. I told her best friend what I was doing in advance so she got her to come see her one night so I could have time to pop the question to them. I guess I was lucky in there wasn’t any real suspense of what i was asking them to go to dinner without their daughter for. Her dad was an easy going guy who really liked me so it made things easy. We had been together for years and she moved with me after I finished college, got my commission and went through flight school and while she also finished school herself. It was always more of a forgone conclusion with us.

I asked my MIL to arrange a dinner for us. I was living in Savannah at the time and he travels for work so when he was in town we went to dinner.
Gotta be honest, I was sweating bullets and he patted me on the back and told me it’s going to be alright. He knew what was going on and had a couple of cigars. We smoked them on river street.

I didn't because I am a man and don't need the approval of my wifes father and my wife is a grown woman capable of making her own decisions. If it is important to you that he knows beforehand than don't ask, nut up ,and tell him that you will ask his daughter to marry you. Don't seek his approval be a man and tell him what you will do.

Oh, so he is that guy. What a fricking tool.
I figured I’d get at least one douche bag to reply with something like this. My FIL is an incredible guy. In no way was it to be taken as a real threat

helped him with a repair on his dozer first, then asked him

Are you not going to marry her if he says no?
You already asked, he didn't answer. frick him. Her answer is what matters anyhow.
Just say " I'm asking your daughter to marry me" . Don't make it a question

I didn't ask permission.
I merely informed him I planned on proposing to his daughter.

Wait. Did you marry my ex? If her birth father is a nudist living in Arizona I’m about to flip.

My significant other? You mean my wife?

I said, "I am 19 on TD.com." and he threw his arms wide and said "Son!" and dropped another $25k in her hope chest.

You don't ask, you tell him you are marrying his daughter and you ask for his blessing. You are going to do it regardless, but want his support.

At a football game when the girls went to the restroom or concession stand. I hadn't really planned it for that time but looking back it was probably the perfect environment given our relationship.
He barely let me finish asking before he responded in the affirmative.

Take him out to lunch or dinner, buy him a bourbon, and discuss life. You'll be nervous, but that's okay.
You're not asking permission, you're just showing respect to her dad, and that's always a good thing. When you get married, you're not just marrying a person, the family is a package deal. Start it off on the right foot. He'll always respect you for it later.
