They were doing drive thru testing and contact tracing before Trump even called it the flu.

i don't think Japan was doing this

they didn't start admitting their numbers until after the Olympics was cancelled

Japan is slightly larger in size than California but has triple its population. Most of Japan's cities are denser than Chicago and New York. Not being a bunch of lard asses and wearing masks helped. Their lockdown procedures weren't much different than ours. *Ready for all the fat boomers to downvote this*

How do you explain Australia then? Australia is a fairly diverse country with a ton of immigration yet their Coronavirus rates is among the lowest in the world.

You’re giving a really bad example. Australia has a highly homogeneous population. White people make up almost the the entire population.

Youtube Link With Explanation on why some Asian countries have recovered faster.

It's how it is treated. Also instead of turning away mildly sick people and telling them to come back when their symptoms are more severe, they were treated when the first signs of the virus were there.

I read that South Korea has a second surge and is shutting down again.

Doesn't look like much of a second wave.

This is an easy one.

They don’t shove their elders into nursing homes.

They’re way healthier and less obesity.

Less population overall and less poverty.

That impacts deaths and hospitalizations but not cases.

The population is more dense which is a negative.

They locked down any ones debit card who didn't follow orders.

In some cases, they locked down the cards of family members to make a point.

Kept people in line.

Health authorities in South Korea said for the first time on Monday it is in the midst of a “second wave” of novel coronavirus infections around Seoul, driven by small but persistent outbreaks stemming from a holiday in May.

quote:

But just as the country announced it would be easing social distancing guidelines in early May, new cases spiked, driven in part by infections among young people who visited nightclubs and bars in Seoul over the holiday weekend.

“We originally predicted that the second wave would emerge in fall or winter,” Jeong said. “Our forecast turned out to be wrong. As long as people have close contact with others, we believe that infections will continue.”

I was stationed in Misawa Japan in the late 70's and most Japanese wore mask even in the rural areas with no smog. Healthy arse people IMO.

They probably aren’t having an election this year. It will be amazing how Covid goes away if a Democrat is in office.

extremely strict border control and a populace that loves authoritarian rule

China can shut cities down much more than we would ever accept and Japan, while not under an authoritarian rule, they do have a conformance driven society.

With the above being true, we instead, push against anything we're told by the government to do. Sometimes that's good. Sometimes its not.

We lead the way on the number of infected and number of deaths and we still have our foot on the gas. While I agree with the "don't shut it down" thought process, we have to at least attempt some self responsibility.

The USA has been pretty firmly authoritarian right since WW2. As for Japan and South Korea, it’s probably because they give a frick about health.

You do know that Japan received their own little version of the Kung Flu in TWO days in 1945. I know that Japan lost a couple generations to that war leaving them with a ridiculously low average age in their population. I think if you research you'll find Korea to have had a similar purging since wwII leaving them without much of a "Boomer" gen or as we now call them in the US now, "Them that got thinned out"
